Fantastic medieval fair made in Santa Maria da Feira once a year during around ten days in august. Many shows telling a story each day, lots of portuguese participants and foreigners with different goods sold in tents, and medieval food of course! Never missed one in twenty years...

With the Palace Hotel as the center of attention, many other attractions exist. The Carmelitas Convent is beautiful. But to find the other attractions is challenging, since the place, although huge, is poorly signalized.

I appreciate my pencils so much more after taking this tour. Small hand produced batches of pencils, in a workplace that is both an OHS eyesore and fascinating at the same time. Never heard of this brand, but I'll look for it now. Three months to produce a pencil?! The ingredients of man power, graphite, ceramic & cedar, make a very special item.

Well worth making the trip to Valenga just south of Ovar to see this amazing church. It is covered with beautiful painted tiles both inside and out. The village is sleepy. You can get a cheap lunch across the square. If you are going down to Aveiro I recommend you take the back road rather than the main road as you will pass some lovely old houses on the way.

We stopped here on our drive from Porto to Lisbon. Since it was the off-season, we were lucky enough to have the castle to ourselves. The hotel is in great shape. They even have a very informative video that gives a great history of the castle. Definitely a great stop to see an in-tact castle that hasn't been completely commercialized yet. Plus, it was one of the few Castles we visited that you can explore fully. They have done a great job of keeping this place in great condition.

The actual Museum of the Chapelaria is being supervised by the Municipal Council of S. João da Madeira, who had acquired in the year 1996 the industrial estate, this after it has closed several manufacturing units related to the headwear industry. The inauguration of the Chapelaria Museum of which the rehabilitation was financed under the Operational Program of Culture, took place on June 22, 2005, this in the presence of the in that moment President of the Republic, Dr. Jorge Sampaio, with Dr. Castro Almeida as Mayor. It is the only museum of the Iberian Peninsula dedicated to the manufacture of the hat.

Il parco è stato realizzato un secolo fa e comprende verde e laghi dove si può andare in barca attorno alla cappella di Nostra Signora de la Salette. Un posto ottimo per rilassarsi dove ho fatto una piacevole sosta.
