Ma-Cho Temple

We went there around 4-5pm so the sun was almost going to set. The place was so lovely. Like you have been transported to another place. You need to be quiet because it's a temple. You can also pray the Taoist way just read the instruction how to light the insenso and which way to face to pray to their Gods.

Gapuz Grapes Farm

Reviewed By kasaysayanm - San Fernando La Union, Philippines

On a getaway mood from the touristy Baguio, we tried the Gapuz Farm in La Union. Locally grown grapes that kids would pick and pay. Other locals have their own grape farm nearby so we also visited and bought a few fruits & vegetables from their farms. It's an experience fro kids to see possibilities of establishing their own even if they have to start small.

St. William The Hermit Cathedral

Next stop was Cathedral of St. William the Hermit in San Fernando La Union. And we actually stayed for the 5pm English Mass.
It is one of those old churches which underwent a repainting job. Nevertheless, it was well-maintained and you can definitely feel the ancestral church ambience. I was very happy and really got to have a good quality quiet time in this Cathedral.

Christ The Redeemer Statue

Reviewed By Honey260809 - Metro Manila, Philippines

This was the last stop for our 2017 Holy Week pilgrimage. It is a very steep climb for our AUV. One-way up and one-way down (one vehicle can pass at the road). Upon arriving, there is little space for parking. There is nothing much to see except the huge statue and 4 more statues at the corners. The place is not well-maintained. However, the view of La Union is great.

OK, but most of the Beaches are gone due to the super typhoons in the last couple of years. Also, the fishing boats and mongers are everywhere.

Night Market SFC

This is where locals go for a walk and food each evening. Bustling with life and a great way to sample local foods and delicasies while interacting with the locals. Plenty of stalls with wide selection of foods. Well worth a visit

Pagoda Hill

This place is just a couple of blocks from my friend's house and I think this a place where joggers can enjoy their thing without placing high regard on their safety. The place is conducive for jogging/running and/or leisure walking.
The 180-degree San Fernando view from the pagoda is beautiful. Another good thing about the place is that everyone can go there as it's open to the public for free.

Occalong Falls

Reviewed By seytorres - Makati, Philippines

I have read about this falls online, but reviews are limited and it is actually not in TripAdvisor. But I am definitely glad we pushed through with visiting this falls.
It was part of our Day 1 activities in La Union for a 3-day/2-night adventure. Since check-in time at our resort in San Juan is at 2pm, I planned our road trip so we head straight to Luna, La Union. It was a 3-4-hr drive from Pampanga (+1-2hrs if Mnl) via NLEX, SCTEX and TPLEX. After our visit to the Baluarte Watch Tower, we went back to Luna town proper and asked tricycle driversto take us to the falls.
After looking for a more powerful motorcycles to get you through the short, steep climbs, we were off to the falls. It was a 15-min ride that was a mix of flat, paved roads, uphill climb and the last part was steep, rough road. The tricycle driver/tour guide stopped at a shed where we continued on foot.
We had to trek for around 15-20mins to get to the falls. For non-hikers or those with back problems (I've had a discectomy 3yrs back), you need not worry. It was an uphill climb but no steep or slippery parts.
As we went there on a weekday, there were no other tourists except for local families who were all friendly. There was an entrance fee of Php10.00/person for the upkeeping of the area. There are a couple of cottages groups can use if they plan to stay and eat for a minimal rental fee.
It is a low falls but there is really nothing else that beats the beauty of nature, regardless of size. One can take a quick dip (no bathrooms, by the way), take photos, have lunch/snacks before going back down. In our case, we just took photos and dipped our feet in the cold, refreshing water before heading back (1.5hrs trip)
The cost of the tricycle we rented was Php400.00 because the driver also served as our guide. However, based on some blogs, the tricycle would only cost Php300 round-trip.
A highly recommended place, not too mainstream and perfect for those who love nature. Not to mention it is quite a quick and easy escape from the beach crowd in San Juan.

Poro Point Lighthouse

Reviewed By John Y - Baler, Philippines

I tried to take a long exposure shot of the light house, since it's windy and cloudy, long exposure will be great. but to my surprise, it's not allowed.
I was asked by the "Guard" that there's an operation of the "Coast Guard" and taking photos are prohibited. Like does taking picture of the light house would affect their activity? So I decided to turn away and never coming back.
