Ascension Cathedral is the third largest orthodox Cathedral in Russia, after St. Isaac's in St. Petersburg and Christ the Savior in Moscow. It's the dominant sght of Novocherkassk and most definitely a thing to see. The interior is beautifully decorated. Entrance is free. Ususal dress code for entering orthodox churches apply.

While I wouldn't travel to Rostov just to see it; if you're already going, it's worth taking a look as it is the only city in all of Russia with this particular type of mosaic art. It depicts typical soviet scenes of education and lifestyle and also scenes from World War II. You can find this art in a number of underpasses along the main street: Bolshaya Sadovaya Ulitsa.

This is not just a historical and cultural place. It is also one of the most beautiful observational points with a great view on the city. Going up or down the steps is a fun activity, too.

The nicest street, excellent botanical work - all season flowering trees, except deep winter. Nice pedestrial zone. The rich and businesslike rostovites lives here next door to regional establishment.

Absolutely worth seeing. Unique palaeontoligical finds dating back to 13 million years ago. Outstanding Sarmatian gold colection. History of Don Cossacs and Ottoman Empire. Don't miss it if you plan to visit Azov or Rostov-on-Don.

Staff removed rope barriers to let us sit and take pictures at various items of furniture. Not normally done but the member of staff knew we were tourists and it was New Years Eve. Don't know her name but Thank you anyway

Of advantages - a large collection of animals over a large area. Of the shortcomings - needs renovation, both the animal rooms, and walking paths. Some species (like tigers, wolves) are still kept in cages. In my opinion, having such a large territory, the administration could think about how to extend the laws for animals, and do not keep them in cages as it did 100 years ago.
