We spent the morning relaxing here and watching a bicycle race. The streets immediately surrounding the park are closed to traffic which is really nice and cuts down on the noise and air pollution. There are some great restaurants nearby if you walk up or down the street bordering the north of the park.

The road up from Popayan is horrendous, don't underestimate it. However as you climb to the paramo the surroundings get better culminating in a beautiful 4km hike around a thermal area covered in fields of moss and a million bromeliads and cycads. Really worth visiting. There are better views of frajliones on the section of road throigh the park to San Augustin but either way it's a great parque.

To expedite your visit of the historic center, get a free map from the Tourist Office located near Parque Caldas.
There are so many things to see and do at the historic center, museums, churches, shops, restaurants, etc.
Tip: Take a day trip, from Cali to Popayan. There are various companies selling tickets for the latter, ranging from 14,000 pesos to 17,000 per person. Travel time is about 3 hours from Cali to Popayan.

We visited the bridge as part of the free walking tour. If you're from Europe its pretty identical with the Bridges at home (in central and South America this design of Bridge is a rare occurrence). Although what it's made from is bizarre - ingredients include milk, honey and Ox blood ?! Very odd.
On Saturday there's a small, sweet market that starts at the beginning of it.

An excellent small museum of colonial religious art set in a beautiful colonial building. The collection is very comprehensive and beautifully displayed. There are painting, silver, ceramica, furniture, etc. Our visit was made all the more special by a very charming guide who was a tourist police working in the building.

There isn't much to see here but there are lot of stalls that sell typical food from Popayan. I'd recommend going to try the empanadas and tamales, which are different in this region of Colombia.

The Museo de Historia Natural (Museum of Natural History), which belongs to the Universidad del Cauca en Popayan, Colombia is an outstanding collection of exhibits.
There are butterflies, beetles, spiders, serpents, rock collections, all too much to digest in the hour I spent there.
The exhibit is well organized and in a nice building near the campus of the Universidad del Cauca.
There is a lot of research going on here in the area in and around Popayan. Many of the researchers come from Germany and France (according to the guide).
This museum is a 'must-see' in Popayan.
