Petropolis is the closest mountain resort to Rio, and a favorite getaway destination with cariocas. The Imperial Museum houses some of the most important objects in Brazilian history. Petropolis offers plenty in the way of ecotourism and adventure opportunities as well as rich historic architecture and cooler weather.

The old factory became the Beer Museum. Dynamic, interactive, modern. You can see the story of the beer throw centuries. Another part talk about the history of beer in Brazil, starting from that old factory. And another level we see all old machines (some still working) to follow all production. Of course, at end, we have the pleasure to try some of this excellent beer.

The Imperial Museum in Petrópolis, Brazil, is one of the most attractive cultural points of interest near Rio de Janeiro. Located in the town's historic center, the museum was once Emperor Pedro II's favorite residence. Today, it is one of the most visited museums in Brazil, with the annual average of 300.000 visitors. The Exhibitions tell the Brazilian Empire history through furniture, objects, paintings, sculptures and other historic and artistic pieces that belonged to the imperial family or other people from the 19th century.
Great opportunity to see architecture, ammenities and authentic furniture from more than 150 years ago...fully understandable that all visitors has to use some kind of flipflops to use with shoes and slide all over the place to not mistreat old imperial floor...but it was kind of annoying.

The historic center likes with European small cities. It is full of amazing buildings which each of them has a history. Also you have the opportunity to visit the factory of Bohemia beer and to be familiar with the production process. Unfortunately all the "tour" in the factory is in Portuguese.

Interesting church in gothic style. The outside needs a bit of upkeep (Brazilians seem to love graffiti), but the interior is lovely, though pretty much what you'd expect of a church in this style. This was my favorite stop in Petropolis, and worth a visit if you find yourself there.

Once the summer home of Brazil's last emperor, this enormous palace houses furniture, paintings and jewels from the Brazilian empire and is used as a convention center.
Visiting Petropolis, my wife, son, daughter in law and our grandchild went to Quitandinha to stroll on the lake side. By chance we came to know that a private organization had locate the place, refurbished and transformed in a museum where you can visit.
We went there to enjoy its atmosphere as we had experienced it when we were teenagers, I mean, we were around 15 years old.
The visit was awesome.
My wife had some many good time memories which made our visit priceless.

If you come to hike the many trails of this national park make sure you come prepared. It will likely be warm and wet, and the trails are not so easy. Bring water, energy snacks, a camera and an open mind. Some of the Lookouts offer beautiful views of the surrounding Mountains and don't be surprised to encounter monkeys along the way. From the park entrance (fee R$30 pp!) a good road goes up three km to the headwaters of the old aqueduct, with trails leading off at various places along the way. At time of writing the "suspended" trail on top of the aqueduct is closed 350 meters from the top.

For tourists it should have more advices. You drive and without gps (there the signal is weak), you simply suffer a lot.

This museum, in the former summer residence of Alberto Santos Dumont, father of Brazilian aviation, is devoted to his life and career.
Not many people will know that Santos Dumont was the first person to fly. So you people from the USA can't say it was the Wright Brothers!
Great little summer house with artefacts and history about this famous Brasilian.
If in Petropolis you must go here.

Lovely experience! The visit is totally free but you have to book in advance. It's possible to learn everything about the beer process and see some institutional videos. Our guide was Alex Correa... He offered us some nice beer (he also offered some peanuts, cheese, etc) at the end of the visit it's possible to buy some souvenirs.

This is truly a spectacular place: finished in 1925 and built by a Baron to be his summer residence. A perfect replica of a European castle with a perfect middle ages marble astrological floor as the artistic highlight. That said, the 100% marble Baronesses' bathroom,...MoreHello, Thanks so much for your opinion. Regards, Equipe Castelo de Itaipava Eventos e Hotel
