We reached 'Jagdschloss Granitz' (the Granitz Hunting Lodge) by taking a small tourist train from Binz, although it is quite possible to walk to the lodge from the town - as long as you have the time and the weather isn't against you. The train stops at the jetty, although there a couple of other stops in the town as well (PS I suspect it doesn't run during the winter months).
In a woodland setting, the hunting lodge turned out to be more interesting than we first thought. The interior is in very good condition with excellent displays; the architecture, decorations and furniture of the lodge reflect what was regarded as an appropriate aristocratic lifestyle in the nineteenth century - in particular an obsession with hunting and shooting (loved the antler furniture). We were surprised to find that quite a number of famous personalities, including Bismark himself and both English and German royals, had stayed at the lodge.
There is also a tower that you can access via an internal staircase; it apparently gives a great view of the surrounding area. However, despite the sturdy wrought iron steps, we did not undertake the climb as it is not for anyone who suffers vertigo. Anyway it was, as they used to say, a 'spiffing' visit.

You feel like you are transported back to the beginning of the 1900's. Beautifully built with nice views and atmosphere. Lot of stairs but with an elevator for disabled people.

... it isn't too difficult to follow the plot with a little Google in advance. There is plenty of action (horses, ships, cannons, sword fights) which will keep you engaged.
One piece of advice, bring the right clothing. I denied proper anti rain gear and suffered through hours of being soaked by a heavy shower.
There are coach tours offered from all over the region including admission. Best option from my point of view and recommendation by regulars.

Let's be frank, there are lots of activities in Binz.
But this pier is just an ordinary one, like you find in many many seaside resorts in the World.
Nothing comparable to Santa Monica Pier for instance.
You don't have any animation, it's just a construction which enables you to go above the water and admire the seaside.
It certainly does not deserve the #2 place of all attractions in Binz.

The ruins of the never-completed Nazi holiday resort are fascinating to walk around. There are two museum complexes. The "Dokumentations Zentrum" is closest to the parking lot and is the main listing on Trip Advisor. However, when you arrive, most signs are for the "Kultur Kunstsatt" which claims to be a collection of many "musuems" in one building. It is really just a collection of antiques with very little educational component. It is located a little further down right from the parking lot. It is possible to eat at the "Weiner Cafe" there without paying to visit the museum. However, the cakes were very industrial, it is not worth a visit

The restaurant at Seebrucke Sellin has lovely atmosphere and décor with attentive and friendly service. A visit to this gorgeous building is recommended but do not expect too much as regards to food because it was fairly average. The fish soup for starter was tasty but quite pricey for the small serving. The cod for main was utterly delicious however it was served with 3 lumps of cold mashed potato which were so solid one could have built a house with it. Make sure you get a table near the window so you can enjoy the lovely view over the water. This is a very relaxed venue so do not turn up in fancy gear.

Experimenta Ruegen is an interactive museum with a collection of many exhibits. Visit our 1.000m² and be impressed by many phenomenas of daily life...A top attraction on the island Rugen. Dogs allowed. Opening hour differ from the mentioned times by tripadvisor (depending on the system).

The museum is not a must while visiting Ruegen. However, for spending some hours on a rainy day it's ok. Experiments are simple but still amazing. Children were fascinated.

The almost endless row of holiday apartments build for the Nazi leisure organization Kraft durch Freude (KdF) is a good example of the way the Nazi's tried to make individuals subordinate to the mass ("das Volk").This Nazi heritage survived sixty-year GDR regime virtually unchanged. Recently the transformation of the depressing colossal line of grey buildings into luxurious and colorful apartments has started at the northern side of the site. So, if you want to get an idea of the way this site looked like in the last 70 years, don't postpone the trip to Rügen you always wanted to make.
