This ancient stone fort offers breathtaking views of the city and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. There is parking available right below in front of a lovely statue of Santa Maria. A not overly steep path brings you up to the fort on foot in under ten minutes. A very pleasant guide was available to give information and answer questions about the Spanish invaders, who built the fort. The vegetation along the way, cacti and what looked like aloe, was fun to see also. Definitely worth a visit.

The chapel is located on the top of the 400m hill above sea level. Unfortunately, you cannot visit the chapel itself, it has a fence around. Either they do a restoration or it is too dangerous, because the construction is too old and might fall apart. There is a legend that in XIX century Oran has an epidemic of some disease and they prayed for the rain (do not know why rain helped) and there was rain next day. The citizens were so happy that built a statue of St. Mary.

It's worth getting some exercise and walking out to the train station to soak in the slow decay of Oran's colonial heritage. The station building is quite attractive and in relatively good condition. No-one objected to me walking around inside and clicking some pics.

The theatre building in the Place du 1er Novembre is the grandest of the buildings in Oran. Unfortunately we chose to visit on a Friday in the early afternoon, and then again in the late afternoon and early on Saturday morning, and on each occasion it was closed and wasn't possible to go inside. Apparently the interior is worth a look so this was quite disappointing. Nevertheless, still looks quite attractive from the outside.

В конце 16 века испанский командир Падилья защищал здесь города короны от турецких захватчиков.Герб,оставшийся с тех времен в старом городе,напоминает символикой кастильские и арагонские гербы.Интересное место,очень заброшенное с веками.
