Compare to its fame, I was stunned to see the island, how much it is small and just nothing's there except the sea and the shrine. However, if you stay there several days, you will see what is the charn of this place, Not litterally the island itself but that small town. People are nice, lots of nice onsen(hot spring), full of eateries, surfng, paddling, etc. Even many travelers from all over the world. I found many foreigners compare to local travelers. I felt like I am in the 80's Japanese animation. Whole town is slow and tranquil. Worth to stay for a few days or more.

This is a rather quiet shrine, and not that touristic. Worth visiting in early morning when there is even less people. After visiting the front yards of the main structure (you can't go beyond), take a stroll to the backyard to the right of the shrine. There you will find very large and tall trees as well a small pond. A good place for contemplating a bit.

First time to see this kind of trace in the ocean. Very interesting and curious place. I think if there is any explanation of this place on the spot, it would be great.

The shrine is reached over a little bridge as is on the island. The island itself is very pretty. The shrine is for good relationships. The day we went it was very busy, lots of school parties there.
There is a train you can get , and the island is a five minute walk. There are stalls on the way selling, fruit ice cream etc.

A good site for viewing Aoshima on the left in far distance, and found the lines of eroded rocks extended further to the right on the coastline of Nichinan.
Little disappointed as I thought I could watch the aerial view of Aoshima (as in post card) from there.
It was very windy in mid-Oct.

A typical shopping mall with its varieties of stores. A nice clean, modern mall but not being a shopper, I didn’t see anything for me but thought the restaurant row was nice. I ate at the Gokoku (5 grains) restaurant. Nice, healthy looking menu choices, nice interior, great friendly service.

My son joined a trial Surfing lesson in Aoshima Beach. While waiting for him we decided to stay around the beach.
There were shops where you can buy food and souvenirs. The benches were full of people enjoying their time. We waited till we get a place where we could sit and stay a while to relax and enjoy the atmosphere around the beach. Saw people Surfing and swimming at the beach. My kids liked the place.

Please do not let the size of this zoo fool you. It is small, but, it has a large selection of exotic animals and birds. All animals are very healthy and beautiful. The grounds are very well kept. An amusement park is attached with rides as well. It also has a huge display of plants and flowers throughout the park. They do demonstrations throughout the day with different animals as well. For instance, they do an elephant display, flamingo and various birds as well. Medori, one of the elephants is quite the ham. He does a great demonstration for himself with the workers. He also likes to dance to the music that is playing all the time after the act when he has someone near the fence at him. He is a hoot. They have food and, of course, shops with their stuff. We spent 2 hours there and saw it all. Very relaxing afternoon visit. Very cheap price to visit as well. There is a shrine right next door as well to visit.
