Matheran is all about the views. Easily accessible via scenic rail from Mumbai, this refuge in the Sahyadri Hills is blissfully free of motor vehicles and affords nearly three dozen lookouts over the Western Ghats and the region's village-dotted plains. Porcupine Point is anything but prickly—rather, it’s an ideal spot for gorgeous sunsets, especially at the aptly named Panorama Point. Avid hikers hit the densely forested and wildlife-rich route to the ruins of Prabalgad Fort.

We went to almost all the points in Matheran but finally concluded that Lousia points is enough and the only spot one should visit here.
Trust me, all the points in Matheran are similar, so you should not tire yourself walking all the way to cover all the points.Louisa point is best in terms of scenic beauty, one can see entire Matheran from there, and even the sunset can be seen from here.

Its a nice lake...surrounded by trees & greenery. There was a temple & many eating outlets next to it.
One of them had a table overlooking the lake.
We ordered pithla bhakri & cheese maggi & chaach. The maggi was good...pithla just average...chaach too watery & no taste.
I had earlier had such traditinal food in sinhagad where it was excellent....here it was a letdown.
There were toilets available nearby at a payment.

If you are just going to Panorama Point you need not pay the Matheran entry fee though you will have to pay for parking. Ask any of the locals hovering around the parking area to point out the way to Panorama Point. It is a trail through the forest. This is not a popular point with the Horse wallas and that’s why this place is rather quiet and less crowd. Its the best in Matheran and a must visit point.
This point is close to the Matheran entry point or car parking area and takes around 30-40 mins to reach by foot. Point is famous for a beautiful sunset and a 360-degree view of the valley and hills. This makes this place one of the main tourist attractions of Matheran. One had to be careful of the huge wild monkey population in this area.

The short distance of 4 kms from Matheran to the lodge station is scenic and beautiful with trekkers strewing the path and trekking along the railway tracks
The Railways should paint the train with bright colours
The tickets are issued only 45 minutes prior to the departure of the train and only 90 tickets are issued. So it takes more than 1 hour to get the tickets .costing some 60 rupees each and 300 for first class

Matheran has multiple points for sunrise and sunset. Rather one side of Matheran, looking towards east is treated as Sunrise points and other side as Sunset.
Alexander point is probably nearest point for sunrise from market. It is around 1-1.5 km from market(depending upon hotel you are staying). After looking at Matheran map, we decided to go there in the morning. We started around 6.30 am and reached there 7.00 am. Better to check sunrise time in google before leaving. We did the same, and within 10 minutes, we were witnessing a beautiful sunrise.
Excellent point.

Just another view point in Matheran, easily reached walking from Market covering Madhavji Point & Lords Garden, Khandala Point, Alexander Point & Rambagh Point with Little Chowk Point, estimated time for all these 2 hrs 30 min. Offers lovely scenic valley views just like other points across Matheran
