10 Things to Do in Lianyungang That You Shouldn't Miss

February 26, 2018 Oliva Fomby

Lianyungang (simplified Chinese: 连云港; traditional Chinese: 連雲港; pinyin: Liányúngǎng) is a prefecture-level city in northeastern Jiangsu province, China. It borders Yancheng to its southeast, Huai'an and Suqian to its south, Xuzhou to its southwest, and the province of Shandong to its north. Its name derives from Lian Island (formally Dongxilian Island) the largest island in Jiangsu Province which lies off its coastline, and Yuntai Mountain (Jiangsu), the highest peak in Jiangsu Province, a few miles from the town center, and the fact that it is a port.

Huaguoshan is the highest mountain in Jiansu province and well known as Sun Wukong's birthplace. If you are a lover of Xiyouji (Magic Monkey), it deserves a visit. You can climb to the top of the mountain, if you are fit. Otherwise it is recommendable to take a rope way or a bus.

Tide island

I was pretty underwhelmed by this place. I went with several friends and we arrived mid day. You are charged to just get on the island and must have that ticket in order to access the beach. We had arranged a hotel night on the hill overlooking the main beach. That was a dump and if I could find the name of the hotel, I would review that too. The area looks like it might have been nice about 10 years ago, but has faded with neglect. Shops and restaurants are run down and overpriced. My friend was charged 40¥ for a beer that normally is 4¥.
There were lots of umbrellas for sitting in the shade with plastic chairs that you could move around. I did like that they had several men patrolling to pick up litter. The area for swimming was pretty crowded and my friends were scolded for paddling around outside the designated area.
We took the shuttle farther along the island to a less populated beach that included a long, steep set of stairs for part of our visit. Was totally puffed climbing back up. Toilets were OK for squat toilets, be sure to bring your own paper.
Guests were supposed to leave the beach after 6pm. By the time we got to the island, checked in and had a horrible lunch, that left us with less than 4 hours. They should set tickets up for longer than a day when you are staying on the island.
The tickets did include an ice experience. You had to pay an extra 20¥ to rent a coat and they wouldn't let you in unless you had a coat on. Never mind that we were wearing flip flops. Cold toes anyone. The little kids looked cute in their coats which all seemed to have arms down to the floor. The ice experience was a large warehouse with many ice walls, igloos and a couple of ice slides. Fun for the family, but a bit lame for me.
Outside the ice cave is a food court and the hamburger place was absolutely awful. The ice place had a cartoon theme with .Disney characters from Finding Nemo. Not sure if it was licensed from Disney as there was no Disney name.
Did not find any English speakers in any of our encounters, and was fortunate to have local friends along to make arrangements and guide us.
We all walked away feeling slightly grossed out. Avoid this place.

We got picked up on time. The van was old and decrepit. The air-conditioning what's far from superior , the van was hot the whole day. It was a very dirty van with extremely uncomfortable seats, which made for a very long uncomfortable drive !The included breakfast and lunch was just fine , and the bike tour itself was a nice day. When the tour itself came an end there was a couple who was told they can be dropped off in Ubud instead of returning to Seminyak like the rest of us. At lunch, they were told him we would drop them off at the office to meet another car to take them there. All of a sudden things changed and our tour guide said it would be a 15 minute detour to drop them off! NOT! It took us 35 minutes in traffic just to get them to Ubud! To make a long story short the detour process an hour and 15 minutes extra! Instead of just hiring them a cab the inconvenienced seven people and we were all furious. It was unacceptable and they didn't really seem to care. We got back to Seminyak for our last night and had Reservations at potato head which we missed!
