Krems an der Donau (German pronunciation: [kʁɛms an dɛɐ̯ ˈdoːnaʊ̯]) is a town of 23,992 inhabitants in Austria, in the federal state of Lower Austria. It is the fifth-largest city of Lower Austria and is approximately 70 kilometres (43 miles) west of Vienna. Krems is a city with its own statute (or Statutarstadt), and therefore it is both a municipality and a district.

ATTENTION! The Karikaturmuseum Krems closes temporarily until May 12, 2017 due to reconstruction works. Reopening will take place on 13 May 2017. Karikaturmuseum Krems is the very unique museum for caricature, cartoons, comics and satire art in Austria. Founded in 2001, the architect and caricaturist Gustav Peichl / IRONIMUS planned the museum and enriches Krems with its Exhibitions. There are also about 2-3 temporary Exhibitions per year where artworks from popular international cartoonists are shown.

When we visited this museum, its shows were dedicated to two cartoonist/humorists, Manfred Deix and Guillermo Mordillo. In addition to stills of the latter's works, there were also screens showing various short films of his cartoons, all involving his signature tiny people with big bulbous noses. We loved the museum, and thought its light-hearted atmosphere made a nice contrast to a day in Krems that had involved lots of monuments like the Piaristenkirche.

Outstanding winery tour. If you enjoy wine and winery tours you will love the tour of Winzer Krems. Our tour included 5 wine tastings spaced through the tour and our tour guide was very knowledgable as she was the daughter of a vineyard owner. The tour includes a 3D video with smells included in the video. The wines are good quality, especially the Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. Definitely recommend this tour if you are in Krems.

The coolest thing about the Steinertor, for me, is the way it separates what once was two different towns into now the quaint but rather bustling Krems and the suburban, residential Stein. Other than that, if you've seen one old town gate, in this case, you've seen better than this one I would imagine. It's attractive, but otherwise, just average.

Where many of the tourist do not arrive, there is a great spot for beauty, harmony, peace and reflecting. After living for 3 years in Krems I casually walked in into the Piaristen Church which is situated just beside my university. I should have done that before :) Unfortunately, the outside is not that attractive, the paintings and the statues are not mantained as they should.

This museum does not have a permanent exhibition, so you have pot luck approach. On our visit there were two Exhibitions - modernist and surrealist, and a screening of Un Chien Andalou which we have seen many times (OK, always fun to see it again). What can I say... The building is impressive, and so is amount of staff working there but the exhibits were not for me at all. Do check what is on offer before buying your ticket

In 2012 this church was adapted as an event space and gallery. ZEIT KUNST NIEDERÖSTERREICH, Lower Austria's brand for contemporary art now presents monographic Exhibitions and ambitious publications on the work of artists who live in Lower Austria or have close connections with this state and whose oeuvre enjoys supraregional or international esteem. With all the Baroque churches in Vienna, I sometimes yearn for a situation where the local church burgers could've resisted the impulse to modernize in the 17th century, and just left all of what must've looked to them like dark ugliness left over from the Medieval and Renaissance periods. I understand that by the 17th century, parts left over from, say, the 13th century, might've been crumbling and in need of a facelift. But in this church we see a good example of something that now looks, yes, beautiful, but just like all the other Baroque churches one sees. Wish I could've seen it before they knocked it all down (except for one tower) and started from scratch.

This is about art and archeology. The Venus of Willendorf could be the oldest sculptured figurine.
By the given information, the statuette of a female figure estimated to have been made between 28,000 and 25,000 was excavated by archeologists during their excavation in Willendorf village near Krems.
The original is about 4.4 inches that you can place this on your palm. Same figures were displayed even bigger in the site in Krems for tourism purposes.
The figurine could be an amulet in my thoughts since it is associated with a fertility goddess. It never had feet and would have not stood on its own. More so, that it is associated with fertility and childbearing. Very interesting!

Experience the Wachau region as it's best. We crossed this beautiful part of nature while being on a bigger bike tour being almost on our own. The view on the area was lovely and looked like the owners are really dedicated and passioned about this place. I would recommend to prepare some snacks for a beautiful picnic closeby.
