This gothic-style chapel stands in Santo Domingo's Colonial District.
Visited the Cathedral as part of a day excursion from hotel in Bavaro Punta Cana. It was well worth the stop for a visit. Our tour guide provided a nice information about the history of the Cathedral along with the arch representing hands of prayer. I was able to enter the Cathedral wearing shorts to the knee cap. The Cathedral also asks for $1 in donation for entrance ticket.

We were picked up promptly at our hotel, short drive to our starting point and we were off. I used the fat tire ebike and my husband, the cyclist, didn’t turn his power assist on. The guide and driver were both excellent, adjusting the bikes to suit us. Our driver would meet us occasionally with snacks and water. Our guide was very knowledgeable about Dominican Republic history and local life in the small villages we rode through. We saw many birds found only here on Hispaniola. There were some tough spots with rocks and mud but we made it. Had to cross a small river that was slightly flooded so we walked across. A fun morning!

Ricardo Guerrero was our tour guide. He did an excellent job taking us around the city. We started at the Basilica. He did a wonderful job of telling us it's history. We then started a walking tour of the city. He also took us to the old church from 1512, through the market, various city building. Excellent excellent tour guide!

The Scuba Quatics dive company is very good. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and safe. Our dive guide was Ellie and took pictures of us underwater. The boat was good. It was a covered catamaran. Their equipment was pretty decent although my friend had to swap out a BCD that was leaking and my regulator had a small leak that was fine once we put air pressure on underwater. The diving was good. Visibility was good with 20-40ft underwater view. These were not deep dives only going about 40ft each. We saw a crab, lobster, sea cucumber, good fish and coral, and sand spider. The staff cooked a very good lunch at Catalina Island. The downside, this is an all day deal. The tour bus picked us up at 7am from our Punta Cana resort and picked up three other stops. Then, we stopped at a gas station for 45 min to meet up with other buses to add more people. Then it was a 45 bus ride to the marina. It would have been nice to not wait so long at the gas the station on the tour.

Visited the larger Cathedral in Higuey as part of a day excursion from hotel in Punta Cana. After the Cathedral visit, we went to the San Dionisio (Saint Denis) Church for a stop. The church built in 1512 is a nice simple compliment to the Cathedral. In-front of the church is a small city park. The church is small but simple. If in Higuey, would recommend a small stop for a visit.
