The southwestern castle city of Cesky Krumlov is one of the Czech Republic’s finest medieval sites. Its Old Town is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site, a maze of twisting alleys built around the extensive Cesky Krumlov castle. Saunter through crooked, cobblestone streets on foot and soak up the atmosphere of this impeccably preserved medieval gem. The gushing Vltava, popular with rafting enthusiasts, darts through the town.

I spent the day exploring this place after renting a car from Prague.
The trip was well worth it, this place is stunning. Really interesting buildings/architecture and history.
If I was to do a day trip from Prague again though, I think taking a tour would be better than driving yourself.

I have visited the Fotoatelier Seidl for the 2nd time after a couple of years. The history of the ownership is amazing and you can see a short document at the beginning of the tour. You can do a self-guided tour with an audio-guide and/or a guided tour which starts every hour. It is a hidden gem with wonderfully restored interiors in Art-Nouveau style. Many foreign visitors go to to the Castle which is overcrowded. This place is fine with wonderful ambiance and it is totally worth to visit. You can learn how people lived in this part of the world in 1800's and see old pictures from the beautiful Sumava Mountains.

Our company provides shuttle bus transportation service between Cesky Krumlov or Ceske Budejovice, Vienna, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Linz, Prague and other destinations.
A great castle located in an absolutely beautiful town! I was there in the pouring rain but that made the experience even better. The castle grounds are great to explore, and the view over Cesky Krumlov is absolutely stunning! The castle tour is well worth the price - it provides lovely furnished room and great history. A must for all history buffs!

As a tourist from Hong Kong, a travel to CK was a fairy tale experience. Latran is the district below CK castle and it has beautiful cafes, the top restaurants in CK and there is a great riverfront walk Don't miss the historic Latran gate

The decorations in this room are incredible, it was a great place to enjoy a chamber music concert on our previous visit.

Beautiful, elegant and peaceful grounds and nice designs. We visited late October so the fall was wonderful. There is a small palace and a beautifully decorated gazebo on the grounds as well as a lilly pond.

Follow the tips from this page to there.
We didn't drive so we took a train from the Cesky Krumlov train station to Holubov.
After we arrived Holubov, we went left and went uphill until we saw the sign of Krásetín village. We then walked trhough the Krásetín village to take the chairlift. We were the only couples walking all the way uphll to the chairlift. Many of the locals drove. From the train station to the chairlift station, we could hardly find the signs and anyone to be asked for directions. The walk from the train station to the chairlift station took us one hour (As we didn't know the direction, should we know it, it will take one 45 minutes only.)
The chairlift goes every hour, unluckily, we were 10 minutes late and failed to catch the 10am chairlift (because of the train delay, we should have made it!). We waited for an hour in the small building there.
The chairlift ride took us 15 to 20 minutes to the top. I was quite scared at the begining as all chairs are single seats and the time for me to get seated was short. However, the chairlift is saved, I can ensure you, so no worries. The ride was long and windy.
After arriving the top, we went to the view tower and enjoyed the view of Southern Bohemia, The view is awesome that one must not miss.
P.S. The return train runs every 2 hours, so be well-planned for the time.

Beautiful art place in the center of the city. Generous exhibition space. The permanent Egon Schiele section is thiner than I expected. The temporary Exhibitions compensated this with retrospectives from Pavel Brazda and Vera Nevakova. Extra 25 CZK for taking pictures is a bargain.

Begun in 1407, but not completed until the 19th century, this historic church was built in the form of three parallel arcades with multistoried sacristies on both sides.
The parish of St Vitus began in the 14th century and the church is the product of many centuries of rebuild and updating, with the tower having last been constructed in the 19th century. Beautiful interior with lots of windows. If you're quiet, you can hear the Vltava river passing outside. Sits on top of the hill at the end of town. Worth stopping by for a look.

Located at the end of town in the square, the Namesti Svornosti, the column commemorates the city surviving the plague of the 17th century. The column is topped by the Virgin Mary and is surrounded by several patron saints for the town including (I think) St. Wenceslas and St. Vitus...the column is in the middle of a Fountain which may have served as a water supply for the upper town starting in the 14th century. It's not especially beautiful as far as commemorative columns go--many better ones are found all throughout Europe.
