The "Pineta Marradi" is a landmark and a reserve of urban green space that makes even more enjoyable this pretty seaside town. This pine grove occupies a large area between the Castiglioncello railway station and the high rocky coast, and is arranged as a public garden. From it you can proceed either north or south side, through two pleasant promenades along the sea, reserved for pedestrians.
The pine grove is named after the poet Giovanni Marradi, who was owner of a small part of it, then later enlarged. In fact Castiglioncello has become famous since the nineteenth century thanks mainly to writers or painters (such as Giovanni Fattori and Telemaco Signorini) who have stayed here.
One of the bathing establishments, on the edge of the pine grove, is well recognizable as a set of a scene from the famous film "The Easy Life" by Dino Risi (1962, in Italian "Il sorpasso"), with Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintignant. In fact along this coast were some scenes of the film, until the tragic end.

I paid many visits between 14-20th Sept. 2014 whilst my husband was attending an International Scientific conference at the castle. Beautiful old castle. I'll let my photos convince you.
Many locals walk their dogs on the grounds. Peer over the walls and you'll see the train tracks alongside. You'll also get a clear view of the ocean from the upper floors balcony.
On the eve of the 18th. I ran across a wedding in progress. It was fun to watch all the merriment and fuss over the wedding photography.

Sono stato in questo locale un sabato sera per un aperitivo ordinando;
Bocciatiiiiii

My friend and I were looking for an affordable place where we could relax, enjoy the sun and go for a little swim, not that far from Florence, and that’s when Bagni Etruria came up as an option. Located 2 hours from Florence, in a beautiful and picturesque town called Castiglioncello, you can get there using regional Trenitalia from Santa Maria Novella (€23 roundtrip). From the train station it is a 15min walk and once you get there you’ll find a very nice beach-like establishment with their own private section of sand and sea. For €20 you get 2 sunbathing chairs, a small table, an umbrella and all their outdoor equipment such as kayaks, paddle boats, volleyball, among others. They also have a bar/restaurant where you can get beer, cocktails and a variety of seafood. We visited on a Saturday and they had an “apperitivo” at 6pm for €5 where you could get a cocktail and some snacks. We felt save leaving our stuff while swimming, since the place is secured. Will definitely recommend it if you want to take a dip into the Ligurian Sea!

WineBar in Terrazza: aperitivi, degustazioni, musica live...
Personalmente ho provato vini bianchi, ottimi!
Tornerò e lo consiglierò sicuramente!
