Campina Grande (Portuguese "Great Plain") is the second most populous Brazilian city in the State of Paraíba after João Pessoa, the capital. It is considered to be the most important city of the Northeastern Brazilian subregion called agreste. It is considered one of the main industrial, technological and educational centers in the northeastern region of Brazil. The city was officially founded in 1864. Campina Grande also has a large cultural agenda, including the world's largest Saint John's Festival (called O Maior São João do Mundo), which takes place during the entire month of June.

The museum is rich and hosts interesting handicrafts from region. The phonographic acervum is good. But what must be highlightd is the construction and its location. A must visit in a town with fee options

Great party. Good music, typical food, or more fancy food for those who prefer it, A LOT of people everywhere (mostly locals but a lot of tourists as well). Clean, safe (but watch your belongings!) and friendly. If there's a must do in Campina Grande, this is it!

The São João site is a scenographic city built in the park of the people (square) to simulate a small country town, showing how people lived or still live in small towns in the northeast.
It has typical food, great music and beautiful people dancing and partying Sao joao.

Just off the Açude Velho, these two statues are a nice tribute to these musical geniuses from the state of Paraiba (Jackson do Pandeiro) and its neighboring Pernambuco (Luiz Gonzaga). The statues by themselves don't warrant a visit, but stroll around the açude and enjoy the nearby architecture, including a couple of museums. (If you're not familiar with these two late artists, search out their music and enjoy.)

The Açude Velho in Campina Grande is a artificial lake surrounded by a large sidewalk. There are a couple of museums located along the walk, a few restaurants and bars, some new apartment buildings, and a children's park. On a good day, it is a nice place to spend a couple of hours. The açude itself, however, is rather polluted and could use cleaning up.

For all those want to know a little about how to produce a good Brazilian "cachaça", also you learn a lot with the owner that's very funny and friendly. The place is a little far from the city but after the trip you will feel that worth it. There's also a hotel you can stay...So nice place in the middle of Areia small city..

Home to the greatest Sao Joao (St John) festival in the world, Campina Grande welcomes up to a million visitors every June, who flock to the city to celebrate with thirty nights of traditional festivities. Featuring more than 300 folkloric groups, over 700 hours of forro dancing, numerous firework displays, and even a picturesque train journey to transport you to and from the town — there’s no better place to get an authentic taste of rural Brazilian celebrations!
Recomendo.

Even on your own this is a fabulous day out. I travelled by myself and while I was a little nervous at the beginning (as everyone else seemed to be there with someone), I quickly made friends and had a brilliant time.
The train leaves Campina Grande and travels for roughly 2 hours. Each carriage of the train has a toilet (port-a-loo) and a small bar (ice chest) in it. Music is playing (live) and people try to dance forro in the moving train. There are a very limited number of seats on board.
Once the train arrives at its destination everyone gets out and there are food stalls and dancing near a band playing on a stage. The trip there is the main highlight as a lot of people don't travel the return trip. In hindsight If I went again I would stay in Galante with everyone else and organise another way back to Campina Grande later on (apparently only a 20 minute car drive).
