This series of rice terraces may be less famous compared to Banaue Rice Terraces, but it is certainly not less spectacular! You'll pass by this place when you're trekking to Tappiya Falls. It's like hitting two birds with one stone. The terraces are less steep and thus more accessible. The place is located in a remote village with only around 1500 local inhabitants. The terraces are arranged in such a way that they form some sort of an Amphitheater. They are said to be the most preserved of all the terraces in the Cordillera region, and it's not hard to understand why they are considered as such. They really look great, especially when the rice is all ready for harvest ... that's between the months of August and November. Highly recommended!

The road to Hungduan sometimes is so narrow that is difficult to disperse with oncoming transport. Many mountain creeks cross the road. I can not imagine how to ride there after rain. But suddenly to meet us a jeepney drove up and we had to stay close to the precipice to skip it. It was scary. Rice terraces were beautiful.

Spectacular terraces were carved out from mountain ranges some 2000 years ago with primitive handtools.
Borne out of necessity to have areas for planting rice, the people of Banaue painstakingly carved their mountainous topography and create this wonder of the world. There are several rice terraces in Banaue and there are several viewpoints where one can have a great vantage point to see these man-made creations.
Our guide however pointed out that some of the terraces have not been tilled for a long time and have been neglected because farming is no longer a priority occupation of some descendants of the original farmers in Ifugao. This must be addressed immediately by the local government to arrest the deterioration of the terraces. The varieties of rice being tilled in these areas are the delicious kinds called heirloom or aromatic rice and are better priced than the common rice varieties. So preserving the area means continued supply of these excellent varieries of rice.

Great walk through the widest terraces in the region with our guide (Na-asun) who was excellent, explaining history and culture of the area. We arrived around 8.45/9 and were the only tourists around at that time.
After about an hour we arrived at some hot Springs where we had a soak in the sulphurous water. The river is right next to the spring so a quick plunge in here to cool off if you fancy it. Make sure you have a local guide as a couple of groups turned up when we were leaving with guides from banaue and were refused entrance.
Recommend trip as terraces are much more impressive and in a better condition than those in Banaue.

This waterfall is one of the spectacular falls I have ever seen in the country. It has a strong blast of water comparable to Maria Cristina Falls in Lanao del Norte and Pagsanjan Falls in Laguna. To reach the place, one has to trek for more than an hour from the town proper of Banaue, passing by Batad. This can be quite challenging for it entails walking up and down rocky roads, uneven steps, narrow rice terraces, etc. I recall sweating like a horse by the time we reached the area and I got sick on the following day! Having a walking stick helps a lot, in this regard. At any rate, the place is really beautiful. The waterfall is about 230 feet in height. The water is cold and refreshing and the surrounding valley is spectacular! Passing by Batad itself is a very good experience. Its terraces are really lovely, at par with the more famous Banaue Rice Terraces! On our way back, we also passed by a hot spring for a quick dip. I can't remember the name of the place now, but I'm sure your guide would know about it, so just ask him to drop by the place. :D

Just got back from my Banaue vacation. What's new with Tam-an is that it's where they collect the tourism/ environmental fee which is a good approach since it's where the bus terminal is and where everybody's first step to the place. They also still offer free shuttle from this place to the town center. Awesome awesome place. Looking forward to go back!

If you wanna chill out after whole day hiking in rice terraces this bar is ideal for you. Reggae music is playing whole evening. The bartender does really delicious mixed drinks eg, daiquiri was the best I've ever tasted and pina colada in coconut( buko) looked really interesting, add always cold beer and relax atmosphere is there :). If you are hungry, above the bar is restaurant with good Filipino food ( one of the best in Banaue). You can order food directly in the bar and they will deliver it there for you. The bar is easy to find, just 30 meters from Banaue town hall.

The place could be remote but a nice sensation when the people welcome you with sincerity. Maybe because they long to see some visitors to come and see their place.
A heartwarming hospitality and the place is beautiful. We had our guide so they were able to communicate for us.

Glad I found this museum, as went away understanding a lot more about my visit to the rice terraces.Displays are spread over two floors and include jewellery, weapons, traditional dress and headgear, and photos of the hill tribes in the early 20th century. Explanations of exhibits in English, with many interesting facts about the tribes that managed the rice terraces and who were previously headhunters.
Museum is looked after by the Inn next door. Normal opening hours I believe are 8 - 5, go to the Inn if the door is locked.

The Guihob Natural Pool was destroyed during typhoon Pedron in 2010.
There is, at the time of this writing, very extensive reconstruction of the bridge near where the pool was.
It is yet unknown if the natural pool will be restored.
If it is, it will be a long while before it happens.
In the mean time, there are many other wonderful things to see and do in the Banaue Area.
