Assen (Dutch: [ˈɑsə(n)] ( listen)) is a municipality and a city in the northeastern Netherlands, and is the capital of the province of Drenthe. It received city rights in 1809. Assen is known for TT Circuit Assen, the motorcycle racing circuit, where on the last Sunday in June the Dutch TT is run; and also for the annual Assen Dance Festival.

I was here with my husband who was racing with his Dutch club over a weekend at the beginning of June , not on 2 wheels, but luckily on 4!
he drives a monster of a car and didn't find the tight bends very easy to manoeuvre, better for a little Mini, MG, Porsche or a Ford escort. But having said that the facilities are second to one, toilets and showers uber clean, and great to see that there were plenty of bins around, so no crap strewn about the place. (Zandvoort can take a leaf out of this book and learn!)
There is plenty of parking and it is easy to find.. plus!! surrounded by some beautiful Drenthe countryside.
A brilliant racing weekend ! amongst friends

We visit interesting Exhibitions wherever they are, this time it was the one about the great unknown Liao Dynasty (10th - 12th century), an empire founded by nomadic Khitan people from what now is Mongolia-Siberia, stretching from the Sea of Japan to Europe. They showed very well done replicas of graves of the noble Han people of that time, and many precious grave gifts for the Khitan noble persons, giving us quite a different view from the then Chinese views that the Khitans were just uncivilised Barbarians.
Many years ago they had a very nice exhibition on the archeological finds of the big complex near the grave of the first Chinese Emperor, Qin Shi Huangdi.
Very unexpected quality Exhibitions for such a provincial museum! Still, I'd only visit if there was such a special exhibition.

Was there last year for the TT and before that for the last time in 1988 when the Dutch beat Germany in European cup. Big party back then. Will be going there tomorrow on the Ducati for WK superbikes. Lots of bikers turning up in town now. Free ticket from one of my neighbours (ambulance man). Gamma day is also worth a visit and all free entry. Last year Max was here in his Toro Rosso

This theatre is brand new and it shows!
What a building for a small town, it can host several different shows, theatre, cabaret and music Performances. Sound is very good, Seating comfortable.
Adjacent is the Drents Museum which is also worth a visit!
Underneath is a very large car-park.

Een leuk nieuw concept waar we ons leuk hebben vermaakt.
We hebben biljard gespeeld, air hockey, lekker een drankje gedaan en leuk aan de bar nog wat sport gekeken op een groot scherm.

It seems a shopping area with some buildings. The Triade is one of three ( so far I've seen it). The other two are Neptunus and Mercurius. It's quite modern shopping centre but the shops are not particular ones. If you're a tourist, not worth visit.
