Amman's layered history is reflected in its diverse people and its varied architecture. Home to numerous churches and mosques, the city is home to a multidenominational and multicultural population. Even within the midst of the ultra-modern commercial center of the city there is evidence of its ancient roots, with colorful ancient souks, Roman ruins, cultural museums and monuments painting a picture of the history of the region.

Nice collection of beautifully refurbished vehicles. It mostly chronicles the history of Jordan through the automobile. Lots of interesting vintage photos, too. If you are in Amman and have seen all the ancient sites, I recommend you come here. It is inexpensive at 3 JOD per person. There are no services on premises in terms of snack bar or gift shop. You can take photos at no extra charge.
We took a taxi there and paid a little extra to have him wait for us to drive us back. Because the museum is in the middle of a park, you can’t easily find a taxi there. Allow about 1 1/2 hours for this.
Aside: If you find yourself going to Istanbul, I highly recommend the Rahmi Koc transportation museum. It is even better than this one. And it has a beautiful restaurant on the Golden Horn.

This archaeological landmark features remnants from several different cultures.
The Citadel is on top of a hill and offer a good view on the city. Fantastic atmosphere during the Adhan as you are surrounded by many mosques. The site itself offers many ruins that dates from the different occupations of the city with the Temple of Hercules being the most impressive. The entry fee is included in the Jordan Pass.

Step back 2,000 years in time with a visit to the ruins of this imposing Amphitheater, which once held 5,000 spectators, and is still used today for theater and entertainment.
They name this the Roman theater, however using the landscape for support points to greek origin or inspiration. Please also see the smaller "theater" next to the big one, originally used as meeting place for discussion of matters of the state.

The old downtown of Amman is very inspiring yet extravagant to visit. The old downtown in Amman known as al balad is beautiful and you should try their Habiba store known for the kunafeh (pudding with melted cheese and pistachios on top) and Hashem (hummus and falafel) keep in mind that both his Majesty king Abdullah II, king of Jordan has visited both places and highly recommends it to all tourists in Jordan. Also the old downtown in Amman is known for the gold and amazing cultural outfits. Highly recommend the old down town to all!

The Jordan Museum serves as a comprehensive national centre for learning and knowledge that reflects Jordan’s history and culture, and presents the Kingdom’s historic, antique and heritage property as part of the ongoing story of Jordan’s past, present, and future.
We visited this museum primarily to see the Dead Sea Scrolls. We only saw a couple of fragments. Much of the museum was closed for maintenance so we may not have had a realistic view of its potential.

We went to visit this mosque as part of our tour. This mosque was worth to see during visit to Amman. It follows Jerussalem mosque architecture. However, please bargain for the shop under this mosque.

While called a "castle," as the desert structures in this area are, this one actually looks like it could have been some kind of fortress from the outside. In actuality, while there is some controversy over the exact use of this interesting structure, scholars lean towards the theory that it was an inn, used by caravans. It has been restored in part, and one can walk into the courtyard and the various rooms used by probable travelers. The upstairs is also open for exploration. It is nice if you can get here in between tour buses so you get a better feel for the space. There are several structures like this heading towards Al-Azraq and they are all worth visiting.

This has been my second visit to the Caves of the seven sleepers. I would highly recommend you visit this place when you visit Jordan. The imam of the masjid offers a free guided tour. He also sells cd's of his study in depth if you want to purchase the CD.
