We visited the Cathedral late in the afternoon, when someone was cleaning and we were unable to visit the clerestory. But we were able to see the enormous, permanent Nativity scene in a side aisle - interesting in that the bambino has been stolen several times and the current incumbent is therefore only a few years old.

I was also hoping to see the dinosaur footprints and the prehistoric man but they are not in this museum, despite the misleading dinosaur decorations at the front entrance. Entrance is free, and we were shown a video about the discovery of the prehistoric man and the dinosaur footprints. Upon questioning of the museum staff, we realized that the area of the dinosaur footprints is closed to visitors and the prehistoric man, we think, is still is his cave. From the video, the skeletal remains of the archaic man was very much buried (embedded) in the stalagmites and stalactites of the cave, and the archeologists had to crawl through narrow openings and crevices to get to the remains. But it's still interesting to learn the history behind the town. Hopefully, in the near future, some of these rare findings will be open to public.

If you are in the area and want to spend a night out after dinner here the place you're looking for. This small but gorgeous theater has been well refurbished and reopened after more than 20 years. It's been built at the end of the XIX century with the community money help and now is back to light thanks to private contribution. If you don't speak italian you can still visit it and enjoy your evening with an opera or a concert. To do not be missed!

The place is just incredibly beautiful, if you arrived here on my review you already know what is all about so I won't talk about the carsic crater, but I rather spend some words on how to reach it! Unfortunately roads conditions are quite bad and for what I know there is not yet a guided tour of the area, what I surely know is that there is neither maintenance nor cleaning routine works, so benches and tables are dismissed and there is quite a lot of waste in the fields surrounded the area. Forget all togheter, about toilettes, bar, restaurants, car park, you need to bring water with you. Nature did a great job but local politicians needs to do their homeworks. If you manage how to reache it and you're not too fussy about the rest, this attraction is definetevely one of the best site around.

While Altamura may not be on the list for many, we found this walled town to be quite charming. There were lots of little shops and restaurants. One of our favorites was a bakery where we were able to try a piece of the bread that Altamura is famous for. Delicious!! Very beautiful churches and historical buildings.

this is nothing out of the ordinary, or exceptional in any way, but it is a pleasant way to spend an hour if you are in Altamura with time on your hands
