This little valley has some interesting cave cities, carved out in the mountain sides on several levels and including many rooms and churches. We didn't see any other tourists, although this was the end of June. Interesting from a historical point of view, especially if you read the story about the Cappadocian Greeks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappadocian_Greeks). You can visit an example of a church converted into a mosque, featuring "protective paint" over the Christian decoration. Nice views over the town of Guzelyurt, the plains and the volcano.

Hasan Dagi is a beautiful double peaked stratovolcano in south-central Turkey (south of Aksaray). Reportedly you can drive to within a six hour hike of the top. It rises majestically out of the plain, with no other Mountains or volcanoes close by. While it is considered to be "extinct" it apparently was active in Neolithic times as rock paintings show it exploding!

This 3 storey building in Aksaray is on the road to the big bus station and definitely worth a visit. The museum was reopened in 2014 and have excellent archaeological and ethnographic displays. The exhibits are well displayed and easy to follow .The archaeology section covers a vast range of human development starting in 8 500 BC. The ethnographic section displays artefacts from Seljuk and Ottoman periods through to modern day Turkey. A gallery exhibiting mummified children and adults from Aksaray and Ihlara Valley is fascinating. The museum garden also displays various stone and terracotta finds from the area. Do not miss this museum when you visit Aksaray.

Saratli Kirkgöz is one of a number of Underground Cities in this part of Central Turkey. Some smaller tour groups stop by here on the way to Cappadoccia. Steps lead down to multiple levels of tunnels and corridors. It was built in the 7th C and with a good guide you will get shown sleeping quarters and where people use to cook. This isn't a good place to visit if you have mobility issues or suffer from claustrophobia. Grills stop you from falling down holes once used for cooking and storage. It is pleasantly cool once you are underground. The place isn't huge, you can see it in 15 minutes maximum.

Arkadaşlarımla Aksaray gezisi yaptığımızda tesadüfen gördük ve ayırıp gittik. Gerçekten ilginç. Ama yapılırken eğri yapıldığını zannetmiyorum. Zira alt kaide üstünde kalan yerlerde ciddi deformasyon var. 2 halatla sabitlenmis. Sanki halatlar olmasa çoktan yıkılacakmış gibi duruyor. Camide restorasyon var.

This site is not well known, yet it is very significant and will interest all who have interest in Catalhoyuk and the beginning of community based society. Occupied 1000 years before Catalhohuk, archaeologists are still digging to understand how inhabitants transitioned from a hunter-gatherer society to living in a sedentary community. Visitors can see an excavated section with dwellings and one with special purpose buildings where the community could gather. Near the mound, visitors can also see reconstructed dwellings which archaeologists have built to test various theories. We visited during the digging season (June to September), however we were told it can be visited year round. We were able to see the archaeological team at work and see 3 different excavation areas. The Aksaray Muze has a wonderful display on this site- a great introduction before a visit or an alternative for those who can't make it out. Unfortunately although the site is easily accessible by car, until it is better promoted, guidebooks do not mention it. Please see its Facebook or webpage to find it (30 min SE from Aksaray).
