We had dinner here with friends recently. For some reason this is by many considered the high end restaurant in Holbaek. It makes many promises bout locally sourced food and traceability etc. However many of these promises and marketing statements proved wrong when we had our dinner here. We went straight for main courses, where the men had dry-aged Danish rib-eye. When we asked where the beed originated - all the female waitress could tell us was that it was from somewhere in Jutland. Not impressive! Our better halfs went for the smaller imported beef fillet. When asked - all the waitress could tell about this piece of meat and its origin was that it was not Danish. Well that leaves us with about 200 other possible origins of this steak. Not at all impressive in a place that is justifying its presence with traceability and locally sourced ingredients. As goes for the quality of the meat - the dry aged rib eye was i deed great. However the foreign steak was chewy and had sinew in it. Not at all a good steak. As goes for sides all the steak came with was french fries and bearnaise sauce. While these sides were both decent and ample in portion - there were no vegetables and nor was it possible to add this to the meal. Dessert and the Arla Uniqa cheeses were probably the best part of the meal. To add to this bland restaurant experience - when we left - we were not greeted by the waitress - who was busy talking to personal friends who apparently also happened to be dining in there that evening. Conclusion - if you are looking for finer and well made locally sourced food( and possibly even organic) - then go the extra mile and either drive to Dragsholm Castle out in the stunning countryside - or go to Snekken in Roskilde - where most is organic and sourced from very local farms...

I havent got anything else to compare this place to in Denmark, but the food was very tasty and with excellent portions. The restaurant has its own brewery, and the ales are all excellent. the staff were very friendly and professional, with the typical friendly laid back Danish mentality. I would recommend this place to anybody visiting Holbeak.

If you like Grampa, you'll love this place. Here you get old-fashioned sandwiches for 30x what they cost in the day, complete with ruined pool tables and smoke. LOTS of cigarette smoke. But it's one of the few honest places left, like life used to be in 1960. So you gotta love it. This is the real deal. They offer an oyster festival once a summer outside, great time.
