Yzerfontein is a small harbour town with about 1200 inhabitants on the west coast of South Africa about 90 km north of Cape Town. The name in Dutch means "Iron Fountain".The town started out when the farm 'Yzerfontein' was bought by the Katz-family in the 1930s. Then they started dividing the farm into plots. The main sources of income are tourism (especially during the wildflower season from August to October), mining and fishing.

Situated in Yzerfontein, on the famous 16 Mile Beach, our seafood buffet restaurant offers the most freshly prepared selection of locally sourced seafood, with the sound of waves breaking behind you and the Bedouin covered deck overlooking the salt pans.
When we arrived we noticed that a function was being hosted at the venue. When we chatted to the owner, he confirmed that an event was being hosted but without a moments hesitation offered us some homemade soup and freshly baked bread. The soup arrived shortly afterwards accompanied by incredible fresh homemade bread and an array of homemade jams and some snoek pate. The fish soup was the best I've ever tasted. The hospitality we received was genuine, heartfelt and extremely generous and offered without a moments hesitation. The owner even refused to accept any payment for the meals as he had invited us for lunch. What a wonderful start to our West Coast holiday. Thank you Strandkombuis

We had lunch yesterday at this restaurant after participating in a very relaxing and scenic ride with the Cape Town Harley-Davidson HOG Chapter. The service was excellent. The food was really amazing. The beer was cold. What impressed me was the accessible and spacious parking that was available. With a view!

The dutch Rene and his wife are running this place. He's cooking and entertaining his guests in a slightly cheeky way. His wife is treating the guests in a very calm and friendly and professional way and as different they are as perfect that match together and lots of fun is guaranteed.
You'll get good food and at the end of the evening all guests (5 tables in total) will talk to one another as the hosts will interlink all the guests.
The only difference to being invited for a supper to somebody's home is: you have to pay for the food at Kaijaiki ;-)
We would advise to skip the starters and go for the desserts if you have to choose.

Yzerfontein is a very very small town and the simplicity at this restaurant epitomizes that - its a tiny place with less than 10 tables inside, but the fish was fresh and the Sav Blanc wine very good. The food prices were a bit high though.

My wife and I stopped for tea and scones yesterday. Great (really) great coffee while the scones were kind of just ok. However the lovely view over the bay and the friendly hostess made it a good place to stop.

On Sunday 5th we popped in for coffees and a scone. My husband is not at all fussy, but his coffee looked like mud. We had to return it and rather ask for a cuppacino. Then we asked for a scone, and where told they only get baked on request and it would take 20 min. We decided to wait as the view is great. However when the scone came it was flat and doughy. Not at all nice. What a disappointment. There was very little in the line of cakes. They used to always be so good and freshly baked?

Eclectic farm stall only 80km's from the centre of Cape Town. The 'Tripe and Trotters' known as 'Afval" locally is renowned world wide. Freshly baked farm bread and pies and the usual fish & chips, oxtail, calamari and a host of other dishes. Another attraction is the collection of parrots, from the smallest budgie to the large macaws.
A good stop-off point on a drive up the West Coast on the R27.
This is a charming venue, which delights in its quirky and rough- and-ready ambiance. Loaded with bric-a-brac décor and interesting things to buy, the food is well-cooked and good value, with Seating inside and out. Children's play area and good collection of birds to keep everyone interested. Worth a stop and linger.

As you travel north on the R27 from Cape Town and are nearing the Yzerfontein/ Darling crossing, you will come across Beulah Farm Deli. Not a regular farm stall, Beulah is very tastefully laid out, almost in a French Provençal style, making it a welcome change from the archetype "farm stall". You will find a range of products in the deli from home home cured bacon and other charcuterie, artisanal bread baked on the property and the best coffee on the West Coast. Pop in and enjoy the West Coast hospitality!
Just before the Yserfontein turnoff you see this nondescript sign. Down a short dirt road you arrive at Beulah's Farm Deli ..... Put it on your ''to do'' list when in the area. Their range of artisan breads is not to be missed. Their snakes and eats are also most enjoyable.

This is very much the local pub for Yzerfontein. So if you want to get a bit of local colour and hang out with the locals, this is the place to come. Yzerfontein is a small town so like most small towns is very friendly. Can get by with English (or Afrikaans).
They do wood-fired pizzas on Thursdays to Saturdays, otherwise always have more traditional pub grub. Have a few TVs with satelite service so if you are wanting to find somewhere to watch sport, this is probably your best option in the local area.
