It's obviously a local favorite. Great salad and soup bar. I ordered the prime rib sandwich and had to take half back to the hotel.

Pickwick Inn

There was an article in a local newspaper about the Pickwick Inn reopening. This place has been around a long time, and has gone through a few owners. The new owner took out the carpet and took it down to the concrete floor --- which he refinished. He has really cleaned up this place ..... in the past it was some place that appeared to always need a good cleaning. It was Thursday night, and they had ribs on special .... very tender and well done. It is not often that you can find decent ribs in a place that is not a "rib joint". Several friends have also gone to this restaurnt and they also enjoyed their meals. The present menu is not real extensive ..... they have chicken, steaks, fish and burgers ..... I chatted with the new owner. He is trying different items and if they go over well, he is keeping them on the menu .... a sound business decision. Why offer something, if no one orders it. Try this "new" restaurant in a very beautiful location ..... you won't be disapointed.

This place has been a great bar and grill to get great burgers, taco's, wings, wraps, and drinks all while over looking the Mississippi River. Drive by car, motorcycle, boat, bicycle, or paddle to this unique establishment located on the banks of the Mississippi. Hungry Point is no longer open now and is in need of a new owner. Thank you Jan for all your hard work over the years, we will miss you!!

Trempealeau Hotel

My companion and I made the 30-minute trip to the Trempealeau Hotel and Restaurant after attending a matinee at the Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona. A friend whom we had lunched with in LaCrosse on our way to Winona had recommended it. His laconic "The food is pretty good" turned out to be spot on. It was well worth the drive. We were served pre-prandial libations by Ty, a most convivial bartender. Ty patiently and knowledgeably answered all our questions regarding the history of the hotel and the items on the menu.I had the Portuguese-style seafood stew consisting of whitefish, mussels, large shrimp, chorizo and diced potatoes in a rich tomato-infused broth. Ample bread was provided to sop up the flavorful broth. The stew was similar to the cioppino I was served on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco a few years ago. I noticed another reviewer decried the absence of rice in this dish. These kinds of stew are traditionally served with bread, not over rice, so I was neither surprised nor disappointed. My companion expressed satisfaction with her walnut-burger lasagna, which I sampled and found to be quite tasty. Our server was affable and efficient, and our view of the Mississippi River was a real treat. All in all it was a pleasant experience, one we hope to repeat next year when we make our annual trek to Winona for the Shakespeare festival.

Let me say that again... well with the drive!! It’s open every day except Tuesday. It opens early and closes mid afternoon. Everything is about comfort and quality- and the prices are beyond reasonable. The place was positively buzzing at noon on a sunny Sunday. If you are heading to Trempealeau for a walk or for something else, make a stop. If you are arriving by boat, walk up the road past the lock & dam and give it a try. Highly recommended!

Sullivan's Supper Club

Been hearing a lot about Sullivan's and it didn't disappoint. Get reservations if you go Friday or Saturday. Beef tips are a must, really delish. Pretty big salad bar, hand dipped onion rings, mushrooms. I had broiled shrimp that was cooked perfectly. Service was good too, she was honest with what she thought was good and what she didn't care for as much. Great view and the patio is pretty large. Looked like a great place to also sit and visit while you wait for a table. Will definitely visit again!
