I went to lunch at Ha Long Bay (recently re-opened after a car had plowed through front corner of restaurant, necessitating months of repair work) with a friend. As usual, the place was packed, with a 45-minute wait for a table on a Saturday afternoon. But it was well worth the wait! Our waitstaff was courteous, knowledgeable and friendly without being overly or under attentive. We enjoyed hot green tea with an appetizer of spring rolls stuffed with egg roll. These were good but not as good as we remembered from a previous trip. My dining companion opted for Squash curry with Duck, while I opted for a Vietnamese specialty (VE 6) which include tofu and a number of veggies (broccoli, red pepper, green pepper, onion) with medium seasoning. The entrees were delicious! I had enough to box up and bring home for the next day's lunch. All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty and as someone who is highly allergic to MSG, I think I can safely say that they do not use it as neither dish caused a reaction on my part. We'll certainly go again, although we may try mid-afternoon on a weekday.

We had the amazing opportunity to spend a couple of weeks in Thailand last spring, and I've been craving authentic Thai food since we've returned. I've had some ok food in other places, but THIS was the place that made us feel like we were back in Thailand! It's a funky, cozy little place; the restaurant was not overly busy, but the carry-out business was brisk. Service was a little slow, but that was ok as we were in no hurry. We would recommend everything we tried - spring roll with plum sauce, Tom Yum soup, stir fry, and shrimp curry. Beer (Singha, Chang, and Tiger! $3.50 each!) and wine were available. It's also cash only. The only regret was that we didn't have room for mango and sticky rice - next time! I will be back - soon!

We ran into this place when staying in a close-by hotel. Using our Garmin GPS and the mobile, we located this restaurant after calling Flaming Wok concerning their dine-in option. The short but rude answer from Flaming Wok definitely meant they don't need more business. So we decided to try the next on our list. Happy Wok has a standalone location close by a car wash. It even has a drive-through window and the entire design resembles a fast food restaurant like McDonald, definitely not a typical Chinese restaurant layout. Our expectation was not high and we ordered some common dishes like Chicken Lo Mein, Moo Goo Gai Pan and Vegetable Delights. However we found their preparation surprisingly good. Unlike some Chinese fast food joints like Panda Express, their food was not prepared ahead of time and kept warm waiting for customers. Happy Work made to order with apparently many cooks in the kitchen. If you are around the area and hungry for some better-than-average Chinese fast food, pay this place a visit and you will be delighted.

When traveling through Madison we always time our trip so we can stop for lunch at Takumi, just off I-94 on the East side of Madison in the East Towne Mall. Of course, it's lunchtime, but it's always busy. The decor is reminiscent of restaurants we've visited in Japan, and the staff is always welcoming. The lunch specials, whether you choose a bento, hibachi or various sushi/sashimi items, are fresh and reasonably priced. My favorite is the salmon skin sushi.Never disappointed.
