I'm so happy to have discovered this bar and café just off the Interstate in charming Lake Mills. The long stretch between Madison and Milwaukee is a food desert but this oasis is literally just minutes from the highway. I met friends here for lunch and everyone gave the food an enthusiastic thumbs-up. My grilled chicken sandwich with tomato and olive tapenade was really outstanding -- the bread was delicious and fries made to perfection. Service is friendly and the space is charming, welcoming and modern. Parking is easy on the town common. I make this drive across the state often and will definitely make this a regular stop along the way. Oh, and don't pass up the short half-block walk to Ephraim Pottery, a destination in its own right.

Went for a fish fry. Nice location and view. Coleslaw was very good. Boyfriend said potato pancakes were very good. Fish was black around edges and very greasy. Fries were greasy and crunchy even on the inside. They remade the fries with only minimal improvement -- still hard. Never offered to remake fish or bring me something else. Boyfriend ate most of his fish only because he was very hungry. Left my plate pretty much untouched. Ended up having to get something elsewhere. Even the soda tasted watered down and flat.

We visited here on Tuesday night. They have a surf and turf special on Tuesdays, your choice of beef fillet, ribs, rib eye and shrimp or scallops for $20.They also have prime rib on special several nights during the week. Drinks are well made and prices are good. Prime rib was good as was the rib eye and tenderloin fillets. There is a very extensive chicken wing menu and I understand you can even get them boneless. We had the deep fried pickles and they were very good, as were the deep fried mushrooms. It is not a fancy place but service was good, prices were right and our tummy's were full afterward. Too full to even consider one of the dessert drinks they offer. Oh well. Next time.

When traveling between Milwaukee and Madison WI, I try to stop here for breakfast. Two persons can get a hearty breakfast of pancakes, eggs, hash browns, toast, and decent coffee for around $20 plus tip. It has a a true small-town feel with many historic properties. The people are exceptionally nice and very forgiving if you do something awkward like spill your glass of water.

Great food very reasonably priced in this hidden gem. We ended up biking here and having great breakfasts with excellent food, service and very reasonable. Need to come back and check out dinner specials. Will do very well if even close to breakfast offerings!
