We wanted to see The Square in Monroe and in doing that we noticed several people sitting at tables outside a interesting looking place! It was around lunch time so we decided to check it out! We were greeted immediately and even though they were very busy (which speaks for itself) we were seated within a few minutes. Our waiter, Justin, was so friendly and gave us a little background about Baumgartner's...Wisconsin's oldest cheese store (but is now a tavern and specialty food store as well). The decor was quite colorful as well as interesting! We all noticed the money on the ceiling which, of course, aroused our curiosity. Justin told us that all donations were wrapped in quarters and a tack was attached..then the waiter would toss it up, hoping it would stick! With each successful "stick" a bell rung letting everyone know! We were in...and Justin "nailed" his throws! The best part is that once a year all of the money is taken down and donated to a local charity! Now about the food...I had a bowl of the best lentil soup I've ever tasted and everyone else had sandwiches that they said were wonderful! We also bought some locally brewed beers and a jar of Slimm & Nunne sweet and nicely hot mustard... also made in Wisconsin and so yummy! This place is a MUST DO in Monroe!

Great and creative sandwiches, home-made soups, desserts and fresh ice cream! My pick for best lunch date spot. Great for a fresh take-out sandwich, too. Plenty of seating, clean, very reasonable.

Visiting Monroe for our anniversary and stopped in for a drink and appetizer. Cauliflower app was wonderful and light. Service was super friendly. Stopped at a second pub but returned to BWK for carry out. Still great the next day as left overs. Had the angel hair pasta with kale and pumpkin and husband raved about the shepherds pie. Wonderful surprise to find this style of food that was lighter and fresh. Highly recommend.
