We visited Wisbech recently and we were directed to the Red Lion for some "decent food." The staff were friendly and attentive, we both had a rack of ribs and fries. The fries were lovely, golden and crisp and couldn't be made better, however the ribs?
They were absolutely swimming in sauce that drenched the entire plate and tasted as though an entire bag of sugar had been used in its creation. Perhaps we chose unwisely, or is it that all dishes should turn out to be nice on the menu? I always feel a bit underwhelmed as a foody when I could have done better at home for far less. If this is getting top marks, God only knows what other restaurants are putting on the table there.

We phoned up yesterday to book a table for two for the Sunday lunch buffet. The person we spoke to said it was no problem. We turned up today to be told that the Sunday buffet wasn’t on and were offered a banquet menu for £4 per head more than the advertised buffet (limited rather than all you can eat). Disappointed and tempted to leave and go to another nearby Indian restaurant, we bit our tongues and stuck with it.
There were only two other customers in the restaurant. We asked to sit in the corner, only to be told by the waiter that all the other tables are booked – this was a blatant lie – none of their other tables were occupied at any point during our meal – in fact only two other people attended the restaurant during our meal and they were due to close shortly after we finished.
The waiter was downright miserable and whilst we all have bad days, he gave the vibe that he wanted to be anywhere than in work.
The food was generally nice hence I have given some stars – two big disappointments 1) we ordered butter chicken, only to be given a dish that didn’t resemble that dish remotely, is was a sickly sweet korma type dish. We also asked for the Bombay potato to be extra spicy, when it was served the waiter told us that is was extra spicy, but this was clearly another lie and was just a standard mildly spiced dish.
Upon being given the bill it was also rounded up to the nearest pound! Another insult!
We opted to eat here based on all the excellent reviews, but had had such a bad experience that I have been compelled to write this review.
Based on other people’s reviews we presumably had an isolated bad experience, most of the food was nice, but the service coupled with the blatant lies (presumably because the waiter couldn’t be bothered that day) plus the lack of promised buffet and additional unexpected costs sadly ruined our meal.
Sadly I won’t be rushing back to this restaurant.

The Oliver Twist is a traditional Country Inn, with a theme based around the Charles Dickens Novel. The bar serves a nice selection of craft beers, wines and spirits, along with soft drinks and hot beverages, whilst the separate restaurant offers traditional bar meals and mains in the evenings - with a range that includes Steaks, Sunday Roasts, Burgers, Pies and Weekly Specials. The team always go above and beyond to help guests celebrate events and functions like Birthdays, Anniversaries, Charity Nights and Christmas Parties - nothing is too much trouble and the restaurant can also be booked out of normal food service hours. Attached to the Inn are 6 separate award winning en-suite rooms for guests to stay, where breakfast is also provided.
Once again an excellent meal and evening in this delightful, homely and welcoming inn.
Our family gathering for Christmas Fayre orchestrated by Kelly, John and the team was most enjoyable. I chose the Lamb Crumble and coupled with local vegetables cooked to perfection was excellent. Thank you and will visit next year.

We have been driving past this venue for almost 2 years and never found the time to pop in. Today we made time and we were pleasantly surprised. Good that the venue lays back from the very busy main road as you really couldn't hear any traffic noise. We stayed in the bar area, along with several other couples. Our steak and ale pie was excellent, with really good short crust pastry. My vegetable selection included very fresh greens and really creamy mash. The other half had a salad, that was also equally good. This is a very good place to meet up mid-week with friends and we will be visiting again. Very relaxed with attentive staff, thanks.

This is a great place to stop if you are anywhere nearby. The tea room is in the back of a small farm shop. The selection is straightforward (sandwiches/soups/cakes/etc), and the flavors are great. The brie and cranberry toastie was delicious, with the cranberry being one of the best I've had in such toasties. They have a large selection of cakes for such a small place. The lemon is really good, but the absolute highlight for us on this visit was the strawberry cake. It was out of this world, perfectly moist and tasting of fresh strawberries. It's also really fun to chat with the friendly owners. Their joking with their regular customers gives the tea room a cheerful, relaxed atmosphere. We also get the advantage of enjoying their produce for several days after our visit.

This is a pub in a very quiet village in Cambridgeshire we went for a meal on a Groupon voucher and would have willingly paid the full price, the food and service was excellent (they also have rooms) much better than you would expect for such an out of the way place. It is also near the Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust which is worth a visit
We have recently moved into the area and tried this place out on recommendation just before Christmas. We were welcomed and served by a very nice gent who I believe was the landlord. We ate in the bar next to a flaming fireplace. What a blowout! Great food, good quality and a fair price, We will be back for more and will be bringing friends and family.

This would have been the 2nd time visited Worzals. Went for Mother’s Day, was busy so expected service to be slow.
Ordered Roast Lamb which was amazing!!! Rich gravy, tender shredded lamb on mash potato, huge Yorkshire Pudding and a few roast potatoes. They forgot to bring my vegetables out, even after reminding them and although they were included in the price of the roast (approx £12) they refused to take something off the bill. I didn’t have a full meal so didn’t agree with paying full price!
Two other people had lasagna and chips which was over priced for the size of the lasagna - very small slice.
Down to personal preference as always but would visit a 3rd time.

Had a great grill night meal again with my girlfriend, even though there was a table of two couples who were going out of there way to be awkward about every aspect of their meal, possibly looking for money off there total meal?? Who knows!! Just very annoying as everyone else in the restaurant was having a lovely time and a great meal, will obviously come back again, outstanding
