Passage To India is a Contemporary Indian cuisine set in the heart of Whitby, North-Yorkshire. The restaurant is decorated up to date in a warm vibrant settings and serving both traditional and contemporary Indian dishes also some English dishes to suit a
Its a ritual to come here each time we visit the East coast so we didnât bother to check the reviews. Places changes over time of course and its fairly obvious when this happened reading through the recent reviews. That will teach me to check the reviews in future as to be honest we wont be going back. The restaurant decor, menus etc were the same but after ordering the usual from what looked like a new team of people I started to realise things had changed and unfortunately not for the better.I get a shami sizzling starter that wasnât on a sizzling platter. When I pointed this out the waiter either didnât understand, making some garbled comment about the main being sizzling and that I didnât understand or he intentionally avoided the fact that what I had ordered didnât match the menu (perhaps heâd had the same query previously and kept his head down)When the main turned up it was not served on the usually greenery. I donât often have lamb but previously the Lamb Kam served on a bed of lettuce, looked as delicious as it tasted and, as pointed out on the menu, very hot. Unfortunately upon this visit it was served straight on a plate (as the starter had been) and I have actually had spicier Korma. How many times do you actual finish an Indian meal?.. Well we did this time.. Portions far too small The food wasnât bad it just wasnât authentically spicy, invitingly presented or of any volume to challenge even the smallest of appetites. The curry was akin to a pie filling on a plate. Why keep a menu on from a previous crew (assuming here that there are new owners) if you canât cook whatâs on it. You are just inviting problems and poor reviews..Nice to see everyone diner was getting a complimentary drink still (a nice touch that is getting less prevalent these days) but thats really the only positive I can give.So Overall.. We will be finding a new ritual Iâm afraid to say

Stayed just 100 yards away so selected this restaurant based on convenience. Having been quoted a price on the phone, I checked the order against the price list and it was wrong so challenged the price on entry and £5 was deducted - principle. Mains were ok, over cooked chicken but sauces were reasonable (karahi and passanda) but the poppadom and pickle tray which you canât get wrong weâre the worst I have ever tasted. Raw onion and non descript yoghurt were just yuk. Please check out other Indians before trying this one.
