I wanted to treat my wife to a âspecialâ lunch, and we werenât disappointed. Saturday lunchtime was quiet, but the staff were welcoming and the set lunch was excellent (good value too - I was expecting to have paid more, and it would have been worth it).The hotel looked comfortable, and I would be happy to spend a weekend there. Close to Raglan Castle and with views of the hills around Abergavenny.

We went recently and firstly I was surprised the menus had no clear indication as to what was veggie and what wasnât. Good thing I started checking with the waiter as one meal that looked vegetarian was made with meat stock. However I could have ordered that assuming it was veggie from the menu description. He then tried to be helpful by saying they could make something up but I donât want to go out to eat and then have to decide and tell a place what to cook for me. I ended up with some salad thing with croutons which was a starter, but the whole thing was totally saturated in really strong garlic oil & super greasy. Donât think Iâll have trouble with Vampires anytime soon! The whole thing made me feel like a bit of an inconvenience as a vegetarian or at least very much an afterthought. The fact I was worrying if things were properly vegetarian or not also took away from the enjoyment of my dining experience. I think if you eat meat & fish youâll probably like the menu and food, but as a vegetarian their website makes them seem much more vegetarian friendly than they actually are. Personally Iâve always found higher end restaurants useless for vegetarian food and was slightly reluctant to go initially, however when my Husband showed me their website it looked promising. Sadly I should have gone with my first thoughts.

An ideal stopping point for hungry shoppers to rest awhile before browsing at the beautiful products in store. With such beautiful surroundings, why not treat yourself or a loved one to a fresh cream scone? Once inside simply find your way to your table w
Had a Breakfast at 11am(stops 11.20)today Sunday 4th August, served by the friendly Fjona, and we opted for a full Welsh and a mini Welsh breakfast....both cooked to perfection, with quality local produce. And a special offer of a free Americano or Tea with a main breakfast everyday made it even better, you also get a lovely home made mini shortbread heart with a hot drink, which is a nice touch. The toilets are always spotlessly clean, the ambience is just right, and you can always look around the wonderful shop after your meal. With an abundance of eateries in Abergavenny this place will not disappoint, we have tried other places but always return, as the quality here is excellent. They also have a small garden area which is nice especially when its sunny.

Not once we we asked how our meals were nor if we wanted any sauce etc. We had to leave meals to queue up at the bar. The steaks were not the best either.

Restaurant 1861 is a small rural family run restaurant in monmouthshire using locally sourced produce and home grown fruit and vegetables. The restaurant is a friendly professional relaxed fine dining venue ideal for all occasions.
Booked the early bird offer which you get if you are on the 1861 emailing list! £25 off your bill when you spend over £75 which we spend easily!! Looking back at reviews, which I often do, have to say glad I missed boobgate! Why oh why would you think it is acceptable to wear something which showed off your bra???? Beggars belief! Having been at a conference recently where a delegate who breast fed her baby, guess what? NO BRA on show!!! There has never been a dress code to my knowledge in 1861 possibly because diners just realise what is and is not appropriate! EG today was in shirt & shorts, partner in denim. Just beggars belief that you would think this is OK outside of a nightclub experience?Usual very warm, cordial wlecome from Kate! You know it's bad when you arrive there is a Malbec already poured! And a Cafetiere of coffee for my partner! There is something to be said about being a regular enough customer that the owner knows your favourite tipple! We have been eating here long enough to know the welcome is always consistent and it's not just our welcome, we naturally observe the welcome afforded to others. We opted for the wild garlic risotto and the broccoli soup, both well enjoyed! I wasn't expecting to see the the risotto on the menu and have the weather to thank for that! For mains we both had the fillet of steak rossini, cooked to perfection (although would suspect Simon would not agree with my medium to well done steak!!). An absolutely fab mains which we both enjoyed!Strangely enough when it came to the pudding, our choice was preempted! The platter was again the natural choice! Such a variety of tastes/textures - and 5 different puds to share! All in all, an excellent experience! Plan going forward is to sample the taster menu which some diners there highly recommended and to take our nephew and his wife with us!!

A famous inn and restaurant since the early 60âs, The Walnut Tree sits two miles east of Abergavenny. It offers proper dining and drinking in an informal setting. There are around 20 tables simply laid. The restaurant seats up to 70 diners and we open fro
We arrived a little before our table reservation but were taken quickly through to the dining room. Staff are very efficient and it all seems to run like âclockworkâ. Lovely amuse-bouche and bread prior to delicious starters; we opted for the scallops and monkfish. Service was speedy - perhaps a little too quick - and our mains of rabbit and beef fillet soon arrived. Both were cooked to perfection and we enjoyed the side of jabron potatoes. We asked for a delay in ordering puddings, before having the mille-feuille and lemon meringue; both stunning. Undoubtedly worth a visit.

We visited this pub during the Abergavenny Food Festival. There was a good selection of beers on offer, the food was very good, competitively priced and the staff were warm and friendly. There was ample seating outside with live music, which created a real carnival atmosphere. We would certainly recommend family and friends visiting this gem of a pub when in Abergavenny.

Hubby and I called here twice over the Abergavenny Food Festival. Firstly on the Friday night we called for an evening meal. The pub was quite busy but staff still had time to make us welcome. Hubby enjoyed the catch of the day - haddock. And I had a burger, which was lovely. They were big meals and either of us could finish them unfortunately! We called again on the Sunday evening supposedly for a last drink before heading back to our rental property. But the landlord was running a quiz so we decided to join in. We were âhim and herâ. We really enjoyed ourselves and will certainly call back next year if we can sort out a rental property.

Our first time at the Angel for this treat , nice ambience and welcome , I would expect a better level of service, no one talked through the options and we were just left for some time before anyone arrived to take the order. We did order two cocktails and waited . The cocktails took 30 minutes to arrive and got to the table a good 5 minutes after the food and tea arrived . In all from seating to food took 25 minutes . The sandwiches were lovely , the waitress although nice and polite didnât really know what was on the plates âquiche type thingâ was one description. The cakes were excellent as was all the food just left feeling a little let down with service
