It covers the entire tambon of Aranyaprathet, in Aranyaprathet District. As of 2005, the town has 16,937 inhabitants. It is located just 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the border with Cambodia; the town of Poipet is on the other side of the border. On the Thai side of the border is the huge Rongkluea market. Cambodian people cross the border daily with pushcarts and scooters with side cars loaded with their products. A significant part of the trade is in second hand clothes. Just over the border on the Cambodian side there are casinos. These are visited by many Thai people because gambling is prohibited in Thailand. Special free buses run between Bangkok and these casinos. Cambodians themselves are not allowed to gamble in these border casinos.

Coming from a Western culture, dining in Aranyaprathet can be quite daunting. Thip's place is great in the sense that all items on the menu have English descriptions and the waiters understand English better than most. The drinks were cold and the food was good and we will certainly visit again when in the area.

First of all, TripAdvisor has the name recorded incorrectly, which might confuse you if you are relying on TA to find this Aranyaprathet restaurant.Its correct name is Chez Tornesol Cafe and Restaurant, and it is the in-house restaurant of the Tornesol Resort.It offers both inside and outside dining, but the outside is close to a busy and sometimes dusty highway, so we opted for inside, where we sat at low coffee-table-style tables for dinner.We had stir fried morning glory with crispy pork, crispy fried chicken wings, and prawns stir fried with a spicy Thai herb, whose name escapes me.Service was friendly and prompt.With a bottle of Leo beer for me and a fruit shake for my Thai companion, the bill was a modest Baht 640.
