I've tried all of the sushi restaurants in the area (well, almost all...), and Joy Sushi is the cleanest, friendliest, and most fun!!! The best place to sit in any sushi restaurant is at the bar, and Joy Sushi is a perfect example of that. The chefs want to learn your name, and they'll remember it next time you show up. The food is first rate!!! You can order from the menu, or from the specialties listed on the board on the wall. Ask a chef to surprise you, and you will be happy with the result. The chefs and the waitresses are always friendly and aiming to please. Joy, the owner, is usually there in the evenings, and is always making sure everyone is happy. Hint: Ask the chefs, waitresses, and/or Joy to join you in downing a saki bomb....

We picked this restaurant as it was packed when we walked around last night. The sushi is amazing. We sampled the abalone, Spanish mackerel (nicely pickled), fresh water eel and a wonderful slice of fresh tuna.Do sit at the counter to see your meal prepared by experts. The owner greeted all guests checking all was ok.I cannot think why no one else has reviewed this foodie find.
Opened about a month ago . john and jenny are excellent hosts . john is a very creative sushi chef.. they have a variety of rolls but some are johns own creations and are very tasty. the citrus salmon roll is one of our family favorites .they personally bring in their fish for the day each morning. VERY FRESH... the rice bowls are delicious and generous. the tempura calamari is one of my favorites. jenny makes their kimchee which is also good. their web site is under construction so check back for it. hope to see you there soon...
I've lived in Whittier for years now, but found out about Sushi of the East from TripAdvisor (thanks guys!) To say I enjoyed it is an understatement. Since my first visit three weeks ago, I have returned more than 7 times. The atmosphere is great...especially on weekend evenings. Great music...very loud! Lots of local people enjoying themselves. It's the ONLY sushi bar I've been to in the surrounding area which has that relaxed, fun feeling. The food is GREAT! So fresh and quick. Even the standard sushi combinations have a little twist that makes them Iwa's. They have the the old faves as well as inventive rolls and traditional dinners. The Salvador Roll has salmon and avocado roll covered in thin mango with chili paste drizzle. Delish! And the price is EXTREMELY nice. Under $5 for almost all sushis and rolls are also affordable.Visiting Iwa has now become a weekly routine for my and members of my social circle. Can't be beat!
