Never again! My daughter visited with 2 friends. She got very sick in the restaurant after eating prawns and started vomiting before she could make it to the bathroom. She was handed tissues to clean the table and the floor. The 'cleaner/waitress' put on gloves and came to collect the dirty tissues from my daughter. When I asked the waitress what she ordered, I was immediately told in a very arrogant manner that there was nothing wrong with the food or the milkshake, since everything they serve is fresh. I never questioned whether the food was fresh, I only asked what my daughter ordered. To top it all, I was charged for the bill.As a manager in the hospitality field I find this appalling. Never will I visit them again, or refer any of my guests to visit.

When I entered there was a man with a broom that I had to ddge, because he was oblivious to anything other, but cleaning. My waiter was Sakhele and he gave me an option between 2 tables, although the restaurant was virtually empty. I ordered the sunset platter and it was terrible, it did not even look appetizing. The was cold and old. I was told the fish was kingklip, it was overcooked and tasteless. The prawns was soaked in some type of overpowering curry sauce. In general, this was one of the worst meals I ever had tompay for. The waiter never asked me if I was happy with the meal, he never came to my table after he put the food down. I sat there forever and had to go and ask for the bill. He then looked upset about the R10 tip that should have been R0.Dear Carelcarel, Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. We're so sorry to hear that this was your experience. That certainly doesn't sound like the level of service & food quality we pride ourselves on. If you wouldn't mind forwarding this review on, together with your contact details to [email protected]. We'd really like the opportunity to discuss this further with you, and hopefully turn it around. Kind regards,John Dory's

At Ocean Basket Paarl you'll find friendly people, a home-from-home feeling and great value for your hard-earned bucks.
Rule #1 in Paarl. Make sure your airconditioner is working. Temperatures often reach 40 deg c in Summer and this restaurant has been like a sauna inside for years with no effort by management to rectify the situation. This visit however took the cake. With a restaurant half full of irritable, sweaty patrons, two waitrons who were not coping at all, a kitchen in chaos and a drinks order that had still not materialised after half an hour, we eventually walked C'mon Ocean Basket, we know you can do better.
