Bodai is just across the road from Kii-Katsuura train station. It specialises in fresh seafood (particularly sea urchin and tuna) and umeshu plum wine. It's got a real name for itself in Japan. When we were there the other guests were Japanese and they'd obviously travelled from out of town to eat at Bodai. We had tuna-katsu (really unusual - have never seen this on a menu before!) set lunch and umeshu as it's a specialty of the Wakayama area and Bodai has a huge range of the local plum wines. Great spot for a tasty lunch and ideal way to try some local specialties that you are unlikely to see in the tourist hot spots of Tokyo and Kyoto.

I had lunch here on Saturday, September 15th, 2018 after trying to find the place for a few days since they were recommended as a great place to enjoy flying fish.I can't speak Japanese and the owners tried their best to understand me and vice versa. The flying fish was exceptional and I will definitely be back for more.If what I understood was correct, the restaurant has been around for a very long time and was started by the Chef's parents. I was fortunate to meet the Chef's mother and wife. I totally enjoy going to places like this that have history and great food.

Had wonderful dinner at kanpachi with my family during my trip in kushimoto. We ordered the sushi course which included some local fish. We forgot the names of the fish, but they were very fresh and tasty! The restaurant is friendly and warm atmosphere. Although the chef and his wife donât speak English, they tried hard to make our dinner special. I recommend this place for those who come to this area.

Tuna from KiiKatsuura, home of the largest tuna fleet in Japan, is less than an hour away. Everything else from ocean about 3 blocks from restaurant, be it wild or farmed. If you ever wonder what "umami" is, this is the place to find out. There is flash frozen fish, then fresh fish, then live fish, then just caught lively fish. I don't care how many times Jiro massages his octopus, he is not going to get this freshness in the middle of Tokyo. This sushi is so far from my home in the US that I do not know if I will ever return. In the mean time, I am simply going to have to struggle with what the best San Diego has to offer, knowing what really good sushi/sashimi should taste like.
