We stopped on our way home from Colorado, truly hungry, searching for good food mainly and weren't disappointed. Since on our vacation we'd had a 'No Chain Restaurants Rule" we purposefully wanted a local restaurant. The menu is the usual fare for a steakhouse-burgers, Chicken Fried Steak/CF Chicken, salads, etc. Because I'd read the reviews, I ordered the half CFSteak and it was plenty. In fact, brought half my meal home in a to go box. The large portion of mashed potatoes were super good with amazing texture and flavor-they screamed 'homemade'. We enjoyed fresh green beans cooked to perfection, as well as corn on the cob. It was a noisy atmosphere because it was the lunch hour-aren't all steakhouses?- and it is NOT fast food, so we waited a while for our food. But the initial service was quick when we were first seated, bringing drinks, taking our order , and attentive throughout the meal. Decor isn't why you go here- this place is about the food. It was clean enough. They were having trouble that day with the credit card machine, it was taking about 15-30 minutes to run it through, so luckily we had cash and were able to pay and get out quickly. Don't know if that's a one time thing or a common occurrence.

Ate at Rusty Spur steakhouse in Vernon on Wed 01/23/2019 at 5pm. Our cost before tip: $56.85 which we thought was reasonable for a steak house, but don't think this would qualify as fine dine in any way. Food, service and overall experience were good and we may try again when in Vernon.Details:DECOR: Looked like a place we'd get the car's oil changed, both inside and out. Corrogated metal on wall, paint on concrete floor fading fast. Nothing fancy about this place.SEATING: Self seating. Sat in booth but tables available. Dining area is separated from bar area which also has seating.MENU: Limited offerings on readable single sheet.SERVICE: Everyone else in restaurant were locals and known by server who greeted them warmly. For us, service was attentive, but impersonal and strictly businessPORTION SIZE: Good sizedFOOD QUALITY: My meal was very good. Wife's fillet appeared to be a different cut and tougher than a typical fillet.CLEANLINESS: Looks like a garage, but generally cleanNOISE: TypicalOUR EATS: We both liked the salad. My 8 oz Fillet ws tender and very good $22.95, also got a good loaded baked potato for $1 add. Sloshed it down with 3 happy hour beers 2.75/ea. Wife also had the 8 oz fillet, but hers was thin, looked like road kill and was tough. Fillet? I don't think so.
