Lunch was fine. All four enjoyed their food. So it is a safe choice of corporate standardized steak house dining. No quirks. No fun in life. Long live Peter Lugar's.

Celebrated a friend's birthday here. She loves steak and I knew she would live the food here. Yes, it is pricey. But, ooooh so wonderfully great....food and service was lovely. I had the bison steak....awesome. perfectly seasoned and cooked. Had the Brussel sprouts....I think there was more bacon that sprouts...haha...but totally delicious. Also had the Caesar Salad. Perfect. My friend had the 14 oz Francona, the chopped salad and the au gratin potatoes. She loved them all. Ice tea was great. Meal was just under $150. for the two of us. We had no liguor. Will go back for another special treat. One sidebar, we sat in a booth in the bar area, the second one from the piano. He tried to drown out all the conversations....it was way too loud....that was the only downside. We got there early and only had to experience that after about 6:30. We'll go early again or ask to be seated in the dining room away from the piano. It really was too loud.

This is more than a place for a great piece of meat. Critics are buzzing about Red, The Steakhouse. No wonder it ranks within the top 10 best steakhouses in the country according to Esquire and Playboy magazines. Look for creative cuisine a la seafood, po
We called ahead to restaurant to make sure that there could be something for the vegetarian in our group of 4 to eat. " No problem! We can do anything ! " was the exuberant answer. We had a lovely table~the server said chef could do anything in the lines of vegetarian. Server was told "any vegetables, dairy is good, and spicy even better" The meals showed up after iffy salads and the steaks were delicious and perfect. Vegetarian dish? Steamed/roasted vegetables with no flavor at all. No cheese or spice~ nothing but vegetables and tasteless... In fairness to the restaurant we did not complain as we were guests of a friend and did not want to ruin their dinner. But, this is simply unacceptable. We certainly understand if restaurants do not want to offer vegetarian fare it is fine. But, when we take the time to call ahead and then ask the server and get what could be best described as hospital food it is ridiculous and frustrating. Any restaurant with a good chef has always made amazing fun dish for the us in the past. We never expect or ask this on a busy night and with only three tables of guests at Red when we dined they certainly were not busy.

We(5 of us), went there for dinner to celebrate my Sister's birthday. We were seated immediately, which I thought was somewhat odd given it was close to 6pm on a Friday evening and the place was not full. After being seated our waiter came over to take our drink orders. It took him every bit of ten minutes to bring three glasses of water and two iced teas. The water tasted like it came out of a rusty pipe. He then disappeared for another five minutes and reappeared to take our appetizer order, which was the stuffed mushrooms 4 of them for nine dollars, and onion rings for the others in our party. The appetizers came out- mushrooms were horrible and the onion rings were huge but only had a small piece of onion in them and were deep fried and had no flavor. I ordered my usual N.Y. Strip which was a 14 ounce serving. My girlfriend ordered the filet , my mother the pork chop, my sister and her friend the sirloin. The salad along with rolls and sweet butter came out next. You could smell the chemicals in the salad, obviously bag lettuce. I ordered balsamic vinaigrette, my girlfriend ranch, my sister and her friend ordered the same and my mother ordered Italian. My girlfriends ranch tasted like mayonnaise, and the balsamic vinaigrette was the consistency of thick gravy with no flavor. The dinners arrived a short time after we finished our salad, everyone seemed pleased with their meals as they were done according to how they ordered them. Mine however was not. My steak was ordered medium rare, it was clearly medium, and I have to say- did not look like a traditional N.Y. Strip cut. This one was longer and thinner. Normally- a medium rare steak will be fairly charred with grill marks on the outside and med. rare inside and there will be juice on the plate. This steak was too lightly colored outside and overdone inside. I informed the waiter and he took it back and brought me another one shortly thereafter. This one was no better than the first one. I asked him to take it off the bill. He apologized but offered no alternative, such as something else off the menu. My girlfriend offered some of her filet , which was wonderful, and cooked perfectly. Now, it's been my experience that when food is returned to the kitchen for whatever reason, the manager always comes out and asks if there was a problem and apologizes and offers to either get you something else or take it off your bill. The manager never came. As we were leaving, the manager was behind me and I told her that I had to send 2 steaks back because they were not cooked properly. She stood there and proceeded to tell me that the first steak was cookd properly, and when I interrupted her to tell her it was most certainly not- her exact words were to me" Do you want to let me finish talking ". From a manager??? She then said-"I have no control over the cow". So she knew the steaks went back and never came to the table to apologize. If I owned that restaurant- she would be looking for work elsewhere. Now I understand why the place was not full, and their Mentor location shut down. Never again !!
