Alpine Steakhouse, founded in 1975, is the oldests steakhouse in Sarasota, Florida. Located at 4250 South Tamiami Trail, it has received the Sarasota Magazine's Readers Choice Award for "Best Restaurant For Steak" for the last four years in a row. Known for TurDucKen, this meat market/butcher shop/deli/eatery with retro decor also offers German dishes such as wiener-schnitzel, sauerbraten and bratwurst. But TurDucKen is its specialty. What is TurDucKen? It is a contemporary Cajun dish involving a whole boneless turkey stuffed with a whole boneless chicken and a whole boneless duck and a mix of sausage and seasoned bread dressing. It takes 16 hours to prepare. Alpine also offers prime dry-aged steaks, veal, lamb, chops, chicken, fresh seafood, steak burgers, Japanese Kobe burgers, hot New York Reubens, Philly Cheese Steaks, home-made apple strudel, salads, 60 imported beers and an extensive wine list. So what did we have for dinner? Jumbo shrimp cocktail, traditional Caesar salad, baked French onion soup, 14-inch Delmonico (ribeye) steak with bearnaise sauce and baked potato, grilled Atlantic salmon with rice, peach cobbler and apple strudel. Seconds, anyone? It was a very rewarding dining experience.

Sarasota, Florida, is a town dominated by seafood restaurants. If you don't like fish, this isn't the place for you. And if your restaurant doesn't prepare fresh fish, you're out of business. But Sarasota is a great steakhouse town, too. And there are several outstanding steakhouses to prove it. One of the best is Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. Located at 2001 Siesta Drive, at the intersection at Siesta and South Tamiami Trail, across the street from Westfield shopping mall, Fleming's is a member of a national steakhouse chain that also has locations in Chicago, Denver, Naples, Tampa, Richmond, Atlanta, Memphis, St. Louis and Indianapolis. The Sarasota location is exceptional with elegant decor, high ceiling, large open kitchen overlooking the dining room and an expansive and popular bar with booths and two TVs. Sure, you can order seafood at Fleming's. But this is a steakhouse. At a steakhouse, you order steak, right? Victoria and Blaine, our servers, agreed with us. They were on-the-spot, very attentive and friendly. Yes, this was the most expensive meal of our 33-day summer vacation in Sarasota (we dined at 33 different restaurants), costing $188 with tip and no drinks. But it was worth every penny. My wife had a six-ounce petite filet mignon with sauteed mushrooms. I started with a bowl of lobster bisque, then enjoyed the best and biggest and freshest and costliest ($21) shrimp cocktail I've had, beautifully presented in a bowl of ice and lemons and cocktail sauce. But that was just the beginning. For an entree, I had an 11-ounce filet mignon, sauteed mushrooms and baked potato with butter and sour cream. For dessert, we shared profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. It doesn't get any better than this.

There are so many outstanding steakhouse chains thriving across the country. During our recent 33-day vacation in Sarasota, Florida, my wife and i discovered two more that weren't aware of. But we are very familiar with Longhorn, a member of the Darden Restaurant Group that has locations from Norridge to Champaign to Murfreesboro to Dalton to Tampa to Sarasota. And we have dined at many of them. We especially enjoy the Longhorn at 2020 Gulf Gate Drive in Sarasota, near the busy intersection of Clark Road and South Tamiami Trail. It features a wonderful setting with a Western theme, big bar with TVs, Western paintings and memorabilia, comfortable booths, great service and a fully satisfying menu. How about lunch for two for less than $30? Eric, our hands-on waiter, was jiffy quick on the lemonade refill and made some very savvy recommendations. Longhorn is a favorite of ours because we prefer going out to lunch rather than dinner if possible and Longhorn features many tasty options with soups and salads and sandwiches, a great value for the money. On our most recent occasion, my wife chose the crispy buttermilk chicken tenders salad, enough for two, with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and croutons. I started with a lobster and shrimp chowder and finished with a shaved prime rib sandwich. The Wild West was never like this.

I have lived in Sarasota for 40 years. I believe Connors is the best restaurant in the area. The food is consistently fabulous, very large portions and the service great and the staff friendly and accommodating.Today I had grilled chicken on mashed potatoes and served with broccoli. My friend had shrimp and grits and said it was THE BEST she ever had.As a bonus the owner was there today, Bo Connor. He spent at least 20 minutes visiting with us at our table. Very impressive. The cappuccino was excellent. I only wish I could have been able to eat their homemade ice cream. One scoop feeds 3 or 4, very generous portion. We both had enough leftover for another meal.I never get tired of Connors! Thanks for the glowing review!

Cafe Gabbiano is the best Italian fine dining experience on Siesta Key! We invite you to enjoy our carefully prepared authentic Italian cuisine and a world class selection of wine.
I went with four of my siblings on the first night of a sibling reunion weekend. Everything was at least very good, and the veal dishes (Veal Parmesan, Saltimbocca, and the nightly veal special with truffles) were excellent. The veal parmesan (a very large bone-in chop) was the best I have ever had. Anywhere. Prices were reasonable, service was excellent, food was authentic and unpretentious. I would return here without hesitation.

Went for our anniversary because we loved the old Summerhouse and therefore bought TripAdvisorâs â#1 romantic restaurant in Siesta Keyâ hype about this one. Looking forward to a romantic anniversary dinner, we were disappointed to find that the legendary Summerhouse name and TripAdvisor listing had misled us into booking at a very generic upscale casual restaurant - noisy even half empty, people in T-shirts, not so much as a tablecloth in sight. Not an âoccasionâ place at all, but certainly priced like one. Decent restaurant, good service and a good meal, but thereâs nothing remotely romantic about the place. There are lots of better choices for an âoccasionâ restaurant in the Sarasota area, and there are plenty of casual places that offer much better value. No reason to go back to this one.
