Located in a new strip mall, La Lupita is very new and clean looking with interesting wall art. The staff is very friendly and solicitous. However, the food was not very good. (Maybe because it was a Sunday evening.) When evaluating Mexican food, the "gold standard" for my wife and myself is carnitas. My wife ordered the carnitas tacos and I ordered the carnitas super burrito. Unfortunately, the carnitas were dry and tasteless. Interestingly, on the wall were taped pieces of paper and a white board with East Indian food items listed. Apparently, there is an East Indian connection to this restaurant, but we could not find out due to the language issue. We will not return.

I was born and raised in the Philadelphia area but relocated to the East Bay 2 years ago. People told me the cheesesteaks here were good, but I've heard that story before. I caved on a particularly homesick day, and know what I found? Authentic Philly cheesesteaks. The rolls weren't same-day-fresh, but they are genuine Amoroso flown in from the east coast. The steak, cheese, and onions were all as I'd expect to find at any hole in the wall pizza shop back home. If you want a steak and cheese sandwich, go elsewhere. If you want a real Philly cheesesteak, eat here.

We had never been to a brazilian steak house before, but our friends have raved about them in the past. So we got a group together and went to the closest one, Pikanhas. Getting seated happened fairly quickly. The ambiance was casual and moderately quiet, the decor was colorful but the layout was a little odd in my opinion; maybe it is due to the shape of the building. The food was a combination of plain and delicious. The meat offerings that the server would occasionally bring around were so good that I literally bit my lip to bleeding one time, trying to bite a piece of meat. But the sides, which were laid out buffet-style around the corner from our table in a separate room were nothing beyond average. The price was pretty high to eat here. So I give Pikanhas an average rating. Tasty meat offerings but high priced and not much exciting in the way of the side items to have with the meat (for the prices paid).
