Took my Senior citizen mother inlaw for her birthday and claimed it was the second best steak of her life. I didn't ask what was number one. She's happy I'm happy. Was made to feel very welcome by the staff. 3 trip there and definitely going back.

Been away from the Philadephia area for 15 years, and when I moved to Central PA, I was crushed to find that everywhere I went, the cheesesteaks and hoagies came on these odd, flat torpedo-shaped slabs of baked pizza dough instead of the Italian sub rolls I'd grown up with in Philly and South Jersey. One day, though, I came across Philadelphia Steak and Hoagie House, a little place nestled on the corner of Simpson Ferry and Sheely Lane in Mechanicsburg, and decided to stop in to pick up something for lunch. Ordered a large cheese steak with fried onions, fully expecting it to be served on the pizza-dough roll I'd become resigned to getting...only to be presently surprised when the sandwich, nearly 18" in length, came on a real Italian sub roll, with the slightly firm crust and a light, airy texture I thought I'd never taste again. Generously packed with grilled, chopped steak, velvety melted American cheese and delicious slightly caramelized fried onions, this large sandwich is easily a meal for two, especially with an order of crisp fries to split on the side. The owner, Julius, along with the employees, greet their customers warmly, like old friends even if it's your first time there, making you feel right at home. If you're in the Mechanicsburg area and are looking for a REAL steak sandwich, make a beeline for Philadelphia Steak and Hoagie House!

My husband, daughter, and I went to Hoss's for lunch. We all had the soup, salad, bread, and dessert bar. Additionally, my husband and I added a hamburger to our meal for only $1.99. There were 5 soups to choose from. They were delicious. One of my favorites at the bread bar is homemade cinnamon bread with icing and is served with extra icing available. The salad bar, bread bar, soup bar, and dessert bar are always in excellent condition. Someone is always restocking and cleaning these areas. The service was excellent. Our waitress said she worked at Hoss's 22 years. You could tell that she really enjoys her job. When we visit Messiah College, we usually eat at Hoss's.

We stopped in for dinner. It was a good choice.We were seated immediately, and our orders were taken rapidly. The food arrived in short order. I had the Philadelphia steak sandwich and it was excellent. My wife had chicken and thought it was excellent too. We had dessert also .... some sort of cookies with caramel and chocolate. It was very rich and good.The waitstaff were very friendly. Everything seemed reasonably clean (one bread plate had a few issues...)The price is a bit high. It would be difficult to bring a full family for dinner.
