Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia (Sinhalese: දෙහිවල-ගල්කිස්ස Dehiwala-Galkissa, Tamil: தெஹிவளை-கல்கிசை), population 245,974 (2012) is the second largest Municipality in Sri Lanka, and covers an extent of 2109 hectares. It lies south of the Colombo Municipal Council area and separated from it by the Dehiwala canal which forms the northern boundary of DMMC. Its southern limits lie in Borupana Road and the eastern boundary is Weras Ganga with its canal system and including some areas to its east (Pepiliyana, Gangodawila and Kohuwala). This town has extensive population and rapid industrialization and urbanization in recent years. It is home to Sri Lanka's National Zoological Gardens, which remains one of Asia's largest. Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Kalubowila and Colombo Airport, Ratmalana are some important landmark in this area. Dehiwela-Mount Lavinia and Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte being two large suburban centers of the city of Colombo function together as one large urban agglomeration in the Region (Western Province). The overspill from the City in residential and commercial uses of land have rapidly urbanised these suburban centers. Dehiwela-Mount Lavinia and Sri Jayawardenpaura along with Colombo Municipal Council form the most urbanized part of the core area of the Colombo Metropolitan Region. Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia lie along the Galle Road artery, which runs along the coast to the south of the country.

Just about 30 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind with good food and most importantly the breathtaking view of the ocean! We came here based on Tripadvisor recommendations and were not disappointed. Shelton has an extensive, reasonably priced menu including local and international dishes and fresh juices. Food was tasty, service was great and a large Lion lager can was only 150rupees. You can sit right on the beach or in the shade of the restaurant. Recommended.

This is our second time here. This time we celebrated my father in-lawâs birthday here and he was totally surprised. I should specially thank Ms.Aheni, who did an awesome job from reservation to setting up the birthday decorations/songs. Most importantly we were given total control over the boat to set up the surprise birthday party and we got support from Mr.Janaka and crew, they were very friendly and helpful, it just felt like home. Believe it or not, we were even given a place to hide our car. Everybody loved the food (yummy!), service, and overall experience. We truly had an amazing time. Should you visit this place? Ask yourself WHY NOT? :-)

My friend and I were searching for a bar to go to in Colombo and were fortunate to have this suggested by one of the locals.Situated right beside the beach this bar serves alcoholic drinks (cheap by Western Standards), with 500ml of Lion lager approximately 300 rupees (£2.30). You can either sit on the beach or under cover in the 2 storied bar. There is also live music with good quality bands and individuals performing.

This is a lovely location (once you get across the train tracks!) It had a live band both times we visited with a very extensive menu.The food was excellent on both occasions, the second time service was abit slow, due I think to a lack of staff, but hopefully as tourism grows again then they will take on more servers.However I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone, it's well worth a visit.Dear Customer, Thank you so much for visiting Barracuda Seafood & Grill Dehiwala and giving this valuable feedback on our food, staff, atmosphere and our restaurant. We stayed at MLH for 4days, every day we hiding to seafood cove to watch sunset and enjoy good weather. The food at this restaurant is fantastic! We visited this restaurant on our first night in Sri Lanka and it did not disappoint - a favourite meal from our travels. There was only one other group in the small, but comfortable and casual restaurant, but that was no problem. We sat on the terrace and loved the vibe! The owner asked our spice preference, which we liked as my tolerance for spicy food isn't great. All dishes were prepared to our palette and tasted amazing! We had the fish curry, rice, vegetable curry and poppadoms. They threw in side dishes on top of all that which were also so, so tasty (coconut sambol and beetroot dish). All Sri Lankan and all, totally authentic - a great foodie experience. I don't believe they sold spirits but the wine was good. The meal and drinks were not expensive - good value for money. The owner chatted to us about our trip and where we were from - a nice, personal touch. Highly recommend this place - a real gem!

We had a great lunch at this gem. The food was absolutely delicious, particularly the coconut and lentil soup. The owner was also super helpful; giving us great advice for our travel plans. Highly recommended.
