Things to do in Ruidera
Traditional cuisine La Mancha in Ruidera.

This place is in an ideal location, but thats the only reason people frequent it, i think.Staff pretty disinterested in serving you, and even then its with a grumble !!So we just had drinks and left, and had lunch elsewhere !

This restaurant is part of the Entrelagos Hotel Complex, but is open to the public and perfectly placed for lunch when visiting this area. We sat on the terrace outside the bar with excellent views of the lake and were served a delicious lunch. The "menu del dia" cost â¬15 each and though this is high for the region, I felt it was excellent value as the portions were large and the food of high quality. Including coffee and a couple of extra beers the total cost came to â¬51 for the three of us. In Spain it is unusual to tip, but here the waiter could have not been more charming and opened the terrace for us (he could have directed us to the restaurant claiming the terrace was shut!), so I added a â¬5 tip.I suspect it will be very crowded in July and August, but there is ample space and a large private parking area nearby. I shall definitely make it a regular eating place for my guests when we visit the Lagunas de Ruidera. In high summer there is also a private beach and pedalos, so also worth considering for a day out if you have children.

They open after 8PM, but do not start serving dinner a little before 9PM. However, when ordering a drink they gave us olives and delicious cheese. Bummer that there was no garlic soup, it wa on the menu. But the food was tasty! If you like to eat late, this place is good to go.

We had visited the Lagunas de Ruidera and came down to Ruidera village. This restaurant is on the road out of town leading towards Albacete. We called in for lunch because it had covered parking so I could leave the dog safely in the car. In this area, lunch starts at 2pm, so my two friends and I were a little early, but we were welcomed and shown to the large and somewhat gloomy dining room; it was a little lonely as only one other family joined us, but we are nowhere near the holiday season so I was not surprised. From there on things got steadily better. There were three "menus del dÃa" varying in price from 12 to 22 â¬, so the variety of food on offer was larger than normal. My friends started with "sopa de pescado" and then had roasted cod. I had the stuffed aubergine followed by quarter of a suckling lamb. All six dishes were delicious and these were followed with various cold desserts which were nicely presented. We finished up with coffee. With wine, water and bread, the total bill came to under 60⬠which was excellent value. The waiter was friendly and efficient, the toilets were spotless and there is a good free wifi signal. All in all an excellent meal.

Our first night in town we got here when they were about to close. Eventually we went for diner on the second night. Felt that the food was a little 'plastic' which is a disappointment in such a 'natural' place like Ruidera. The red wine was served really chilled which is not unusual in Spain but was nevertheless unpleasant on a cold night. The fried cheese (boy, were we looking forward to that) tasted like rubber and the battered pork filet was tasteless. The other starter (eggs and peppers) did not save the meal and their fault or mine I had the diner talking to me all night along. Next time will find something else.

We stopped off for lunch at La Vega. A great find. The restaurant specialises in charcoal grilled dishes. In this region of Spain chorizo, morcilla (black pudding), local salchicha and pork brochettes (pincho morunao) are an absolute must try. A bonus is thar La Vega had ice cold bear on tap.The location is also fantastic - looking onto one of the larger lakes in this part of Spain's superb lake lands (Lagoonas de Ruidera).
