Absolutely the best Cuban restaurant. Fantastic prices and fantastic service. Great for first dates to family birthdays. I go there all the time and have been a customer for years. Don’t have a favorite dish because they are all great.

We are regulars at Pio Pio on 10th Avenue. This one seems more like a fast-food version. The service was efficient, but the food didn’t seem vibrantly fresh. The sangria was so poor we complained to the management (who didn’t do anything about it).Sadly, we came here with friends because we didn’t want the 10th Avenue branch’s loud music and noise, where we go by ourselves and don’t have to talk. The ambience seemed more fast-food, plain and utilitarian. It’s odd that I would love to take friends to 10th Avenue in the stunning an dramatic décor but can’t stand the noise level, yet I wouldn’t bring them here for a fast- food décor even though the noise level was minimal.

With a charming menu, it seemed so inviting, but I doubt if we will return since the sighting of mice. NYC Health Dept. cites "evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food and/or non-food areas." Holy Mousetrap! This place also flunked restaurant inspection. No repeat visits for us. Maybe they should get a cat.

Guantanamera

My wife and I dined at this wonderful restaurant during a business trip to New York City. We were looking for some authentic Latin fare and Guantanamera did not disappoint. We chose an assortment of appetizers served tapas style. We feasted on shrimp with garlic, ceviche, mussels, Pinchos or tenderloin skewers, empanadas, and fried sweet plantains. We enjoyed traditional Mojitos - the sugar cane slices were a nice touch. Everything we sampled was wonderfully prepared and delicious. We shared the crepes with guava paste for dessert - a bit sweet but tart and flavorful. Our waiter, Florencio, was pleasant and engaging. To top it all off we were treated to live Cuban music performed by an energetic trio. We hope to be back soon.
