For the wifeâs birthday we had a lovely walk along the Griega beach to the dinosaur footprints and then decided to drive the short distance into Lastres for lunch. We have eaten in the town many times at various restaurants, cafes and bars and have had mixed results. A couple of places have been good, a couple mediocre and one was very disappointing. Normally we now head to the bar Marbella because, not only is the food good, but the outside terrace is one of the best along the Asturian coast. Unfortunately, when we got there today, the Marbella was closed (fair enough, it is January). We drove up through the town and saw that the bar El Meson del Pescador was open with plenty of parking outside. We had a look at the menu outside and saw that there was a Menu del Dia for â¬13.90 which is a little expensive for an out of season Monday in Asturias but, with little other options in the vicinity we thought we would give it a go. As it happens, after the meal we thought we had had excellent value for money! We were greeted by a very pleasant young man who spoke good English but was also happy for us to practise our Spanish on him. He seated us at a table in a small and unpretentious dining room. The other patrons, all Spanish, were friendly and spoke to us. The menu was standard Asturian choices of fabada, pastel, ensalada mixta, entrecote, escalopinas etc. I think someone has loaded a photo of the menu which doesn't appear to change much.To start I had a very nice fabada and Linda had a delicious crab pastel. They were both lovely and the pastel was particularly tasty. Second course was an ample portion of escalopinas with cabrales sauce for my wife which she declared as one of the best she has had. I had medium rare entrecote and it was lovely. I never expect much when I order a steak on a menu del dia as they are invariably small pieces of beef, beaten to be made large and bland tasting. Wow, was this an exception. It was a great piece of steak, man-size and an inch and a half thick. It was cooked to perfection and tasted fantastic. I've had steaks for â¬30 in other restaurants that weren't this good. What a very pleasant surprise.Desserts in Asturias are uninspiring but Linda had a perfectly pleasant arroz con leche. I had a small cafe instead of dessert and the bill for a very good meal, with bread, wine and water came to just under â¬28 euros. As I say, excellent value for money and we now have another good restaurant to choose from in the lovely village of Lastres. We are therefore happy to recommend the bar El Meson.

The views from this location are out of this world! The food is outstanding and the cost is moderately priced. Their wines are also excellent.

We stayed at The hotel lastres miramar for one night. When we checked in we asked if our room had a sea view and the receptionist said we didn't but for 5 euros extra we could have one. The room had a very small window so we couldn't really appreciate the sea view and the curtain rail was hanging off the wall. The bedside light was broken and the wires were visible which was dangerous and the shower screen was broken We reported these to reception but nothing was done while we were there. The room was really small and claustrophobic. Parking was difficult as the hotel does not have a car park and we arrived on a Sunday and the town was busy.

Located at the beginning of the road going down to Lastres Beach, this restaurant has both inside and outdoor seating. It is recommended by locals as a family run good value restaurant. Parking is available nearby, but does fill up along with the restaurant at lunch times (2 - 3:30pm). Reservations are recommended on weekends.Portions are of decent size and normally people order several dishes from the menu & share. Some of their menu items recommended are : rollo de bonito (tuna fish roll) and chiperones rellenes en su tinta (stuffed baby squid in black ink). Typically served with french fries.

We ate here on a busy Friday night, didn't start well with waiter knocking over a glass of kas limon over my son; spent too long saying it wasn't a problem before offering a half hearted apology- wrong way around apology first then clear up the mess. The wacky baked onion starter was interesting in a good way and the chiperones fresh and delicious. Very generous helpings of food. My Chicken cooked on the grill was very tasty, the kids shared a cachopo, my wife's lamb chops were good. Served simply, nothing exciting but all done well enough. Fairly basic restaurant in other respects.

We visited El Escanu a grand total of three times during our recent stay and Lastres because we loved the food and service so much. The restaurant is blessed with marvellous ocean views and cosy indoor and outdoor seating areas where you can enjoy a 'Sidra' and try some typical Asturian dishes. The service was outstanding each time we visited. Warm, cordial, friendly, attentive - and they made us all feel welcome, especially our 11-month-old daughter. Some of the delicacies we tried include: bonito a la plancha, escalopines al cabrales, patatas ali-oli, pixin frito, pulpo a la gallega, etc.Seriously good value for money and truly homemade food. Will return!

The location, the facilities and the views are unbeatable. The staff and management were pleasant and efficient and the food was very good. We had the pote asturiano, cachopo and grilled fish, all well cooked and tasty. Service time was a little slow due to the very busy day but we will return on a more ordinary day to enjoy the food and the great location.

This place is a must if you are in the area. Was on holiday in Asturias with the wife and two boys, and the owner of the "Casa Rural" (Casa La Riba) we rented in Sames, recommended this place to us. We also saw that it was number one in Lastres on Tripadvisor. We started with a couple of juices for the boys and couple of cold beers for us. Then for starters we had "Croquetas de Jamón", "Calamares frescos fritos" and grilled vegetables. The vegetables were fresh from their garden. Everything was perfect. Then the boys both had "Arroz con Almejas" and there was not a grain of rice left on either plate. The wife and I both had the "Lomo de Merluza con Centollo". Freshly caught locally. Again, I am not usually a fish eater, however this could make me a convert. For desert we ordered "Mil hojas con Manzana", "Tarta de Queso" and "Bicocho, helado y trufa de chocolate". Everything was excelent. It was all washed down a white "Alvariño" wine. Now to top this all off, I get blown away with the best coffee I have ever had, "Cafe de Puchero". I just had to have a second cup!The husband and wife, who own and run this place, make an excellent team. He knows how to cook, and use natural produce the way it it is supposed to be used, and she makes you feel extremely welcome and comfortable, serving you in the most pleasant of ways. What else can you ask for? Well to say that the four us ate for about 120 euros, I would say, we've got to go back, and would advise you all to try this place
