Reviews on Spanish food in Bergisch Gladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. A late creation by area standards, Bergisch Gladbach was founded in 1856 as a city district comprising several smaller (and older) towns, with a total population of about 105,000. The 10th-century St. Johann Baptist Church at Refrath is Bergisch Gladbach's oldest building. The Bensberg Rathaus (or town hall, nicknamed "Affenfelsen," or Monkey Rock) is a nationally known tourist attraction. Schloss Bensberg and Schloss Lerbach, both former castles, are now among Germany's top luxury hotels.

On a business trip so eating alone. Very good food and nice house wine. Good service and delicious desert. Pleasant terrace to sit as weather was good. Will make this my regular when in Bergisch Gladbach.Only the architecture spoils the place.

Saturday night and we were stranded in the city center with no restaurant being able to take a table for two. Yeah stupid time not to book a table. So we decided to take the tram back to our Airbnb and try to find some place there. Stepped off the tram and right there was Esteban. Our savior. Food was amazing, cheap and delicious. Having travelled many many times in Spain, I was delighted to see it was just like any Spanish restaurant. The staff was very very nice. If ever back in Bergisch, I will definitely come back here !

While staying at the hotel, we enjoyed lunch and dinner at this restaurant a few times.Given the heat in August, we used their outside seating, which was lovely. The menu provides for lovely Spanish dishes with a few international variants too. Portions are quite generous, too. The wine selection captures Spain's finest.

We brought 7 people in, fed everyone exceedingly well, and got away with a very fair bill having enjoyed a culinary treat. We were with friends who are German speakers, and we left the ordering to them. We seemed to have a bit harder time communicating what we wanted to the server than I felt justified. There were 14 menu items, 7 of us, and a recommendation of 2-3 plates per person -- being tapas. The server argued gently with us, saying that the portions were too small to feed 7, and she even went in to bring out a bowl to show us size. We knew that there was enough difference in taste to know that none of us would eat from all the bowls. The process started to repeat itself at dessert. In the end our instinct on how much we would eat was right, so I am glad we insisted in our desires. The food was excellent. I would consider it Spain-inspired more than Spanish. The flavours were strong, bold, enticing but not what I was accustomed to in Spain. For example, I can be sure they used Itslian olive oil, not Spanish; creme brulee was offered instead of the more customary flan. The list goes on, touching almost every dish. No matter! The basic ingredients and ideas resonated Spain and the foid really was superb!Aside from the slightly off-putting service, it was virtually a "5" and is definitely a place I would return to again and again if I lived in this corner of the world.
