Among several interesting choices in the picturesque town of Pisco de Elqui, I was glad that we chose El Ranchito de Rene. There are a few gourmet options but this one proved to be "down home" Chilean cuisine at its best. My Chilean chef companion agreed. He chose the lamb and I the rabbit. For appetizers we tried their empanadas del horno - baked. The entire meal was memorable. I highly recommend stopping here if you´re visiting the Valley of Elqui - which I also highly recommend. You could spend a lot more elsewhere, but why? They also take credit cards.
We crushed landed here, the place itâs magical, the energy is something else and the service was outstanding. Totally recommended!

It is unfortunate that this resto is open only for lunch -- when it is a little too uncomfortable because of heat. We opted for takeout -- to eat in airy comfort in our nearby apartment. We happily devoured their version of a Chilean standard: corn cake (pastel de choclo). Many critics of Chilean restos complain that there is not enough meat in this concoction of corn, corn meal, olives, eggs, and chicken. We were very happy that it was chicken and not beef, and that the chicken was only a minor element in this mostly-vegetarian treat. This great example of Chilean comfort food was the only dish we tried, so take my rating with caution.

The restaurant does have a decor which is Not The Norm, i.e crushed stone floor, 7-8 single/double tables and around the periphery some 6-7 Adobe style seating, tables... You have to be able to withstand sitting on the mud/stone seats. We had been here two year's previously and being a Sunday there are not many options in Town so we returned to Los Jugos. A dish of grilled chicken , a grilled carne (pork) and a Soup made for our main dishes. Not papa fritas here so I did better by having the grilled potato chunks..yummy. A tad too much salt on my chicken, but the Carmenere Reserve tempered that excess.... Somewhat. Lovely young waitress who spoke reasonable English akin to my Spanish but was surprised when she brought the pen written bill and noted for my benefit... If that were necessary, that the Tip was Not Included. The result a Tip that was slightly less than otherwise is my practice.

A Different-Healthy-Natural place in the heart of the Elqui Valley where you can enjoy an innovative dining experience, relax in our chill-out terrace and be seduced by the incredible views of the majestic mountains that surround us ... We wait!
Very nice atmosphere to have a chilly dinner. They serve good teas and jugos which are a bit a expensive but taste good! The maindishes are just perfect, especially the falafel, about clp 5k! The staff was very nice and they create a good vibe! There is wifi as well. Well done, thank you!

Well, I have to say this was yet another recommendation on this holiday and again a good one. OK, it was a little rustic both inside and outside but that was part of the charm. We plumped for the latter given it was a warm evening. The outside was quite small but virtually all tables were full and there was the pleasant sound of people enjoying themselves. We had Pisco sours each while we looked at the menu before deciding on an Elqui salad each for starters, a main course of chicken for the wife and pork ribs for me, these with a bottle of local Syrah. Then came the only disappointment, everything arrived together but, hey, we coped. The Elqui salad consisted of lettuce, avocado, skinned tomatoes, goats milk cheese and dressing and was very good, albeit the portions were massive. We could easily have shared one between us and there would have still been plenty left!Likewise, the mains were also large! The chicken was stuffed with spinach and was served with rice while the pork ribs were served with salted potatoes (far too many). Both went down a real treat while the local Syrah proved to be a good accompaniment. So, another one which we enjoyed and one we would recommend.
