It has 11,369 inhabitants as per the 2001 census [INDEC], and is the principal town (seat) of the Department of Humahuaca. The city is widely known for its location at the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a long valley east of the central Andean Altiplano.

Stopped by this place after visiting the hornocal. We were recommended here by a guide. The menu is pretty limited to the basics (lomo, empanadas, milanesas, tamales, pollo and not much else). While the food was fairly good, the service was quite slow and the bathrooms were missing essentials. Empanadas come fried unless you ask for âal hornoâ. Would definitely recommend the non fried option. Overall not bad for a cheap eat.

We arrived here for lunch, returning from visiting Mt. Hornocal and its 14 Colores. At 1PM we had our choice of tables joining just 2 other diners. A waiter presented menus, took our order, and returned with our huge Fanta. We washed our hands in their clean restrooms and reviewed photos as groups began to arrive. Happy to have our hot meals arrive; Cheese Omelette and Milanese of Lama with pure, both excellent and filling, served with bread rolls. The bill totaled a reasonable 310 Ap = $15. Good food enjoyed with a native culture band.

Travelling throughout the Northern area of Argentina, you may find lovely places to have dinner which, in spite of their local touch (that is to say, the food, the atmosphere, sometimes the service), are owned by people from Buenos Aires who moved to this enchanted area in order to make a major change in their busy lives. They are nice places with tasty food but no matter how much they try, you just can tell. La Tuna is not that kind of place. Once you are in, you are still in Jujuy, you are still in charming Humahuaca. The atmosphere is outstanding: no Bossa Nova, no ketchup, no Champions League. Traditional food is all you will find on the menu, alongside with clay pottery, ethnic envoronment and kind service. Llama meat is delicious, kid casserole is mouth-watering and if you're a vegeraterian, there is also available a wide range of appetizing dishes consisting of vegetables and legume. Portions are abundant so if you are travelling with someone else and you are both hungry and on a budget, you can just share food. As for other details, always remember to ask if credit cards are accepted. They usually are, but it depends on whether their system is working or not. Enjoy!

It's nice from the outside, with nice colors on the walls, but its food is not so impressive. We had some empanadas with bones inside that we couldn't finish.If you are hungry in Humahuaca, definitely keep looking for a better option.The best thing I take from going there is that I still use their wifi from the hotel we are staying.

El lugar es agradable, la moza fue muy cordial pero era la única en todo el salón que tendrá unas 30 mesas, a medida que se fue llenando se hizo muy lento el servicio. Pedimos un menú del mediodÃa que es económico, 2 empanadas muy buenas, arroz con estofado de cordero que era más hueso que carne, una sopa regular, y arroz con leche que estaba bien. Todo por $ 200. La calidad de la comida es regular, pero la relación precio / calidad está bien.

Short of time I was looking for a take away, and found this great solution.They open at about 12:30, you clearly understand that it must be good because there is a queue of locals already waiting there to get the take away.It is simple local food, the selection is good, to go or to stay. There are a few seats to eat there. They microwave the food for you and have plastic cutlery and napkins. Everything look good and taste good, the prices are for take away but the quality is way better than most of the pretentious restaurants.Highly recommended, and off the beaten track of tourist coaches....It does not matter if you do not speak any Spanish,.... point with your finger...

Conocà a Fortunato entre 1987 y 1990 (no recuerdo) cuando en Humahuaca todos iban de paso. Y ya Fortunato tenÃa su boliche. A la tardecita comenzaban a caer los muchachos del pueblo y alguna noviecita. Todos tomando y picando algo. Se agregaban un puñadito mÃnimo de extranjeros y viajeros culturales del paÃs. Se bajaba la luz y Fortunato ponÃa un cassete con alguna pelÃcula. Allà vi "Contacto en Francia". Comimos como los dioses tamales, empanadas y choclos diminutos. Al final se armaba la fiestita. Algunos tocaban un instrumento y otros se largaban a bailar. Todo entre pocos. Recuerdo un buen músico humahuaqueño que me contó que era hijo de un belga y una jujeña. De ese espÃritu quedó algo mucho más organizado y abierto que es hoy la peña de Fortunato. Gran persona, maestro rural inmortalizado en el film "La deuda interna". No perder ese lugar.

Small corner restaurant located in a quiet area of Humahuaca. Very clean with modest furnishings. Food was excellent, had lunch from the daily menu, roasted meat with potato as well as a burger and a couple of chicken empanadas. Great tasting food and friendly service.

A small establishment in the town of Humahuaca, it was recommended by our local guide as a great lunch spot not frequented by the tour buses (it was very busy with primarily locals dining). The guide recommended the empanadas and we ordered the cheese and the vegetable empanadas and they were great - as good as any we had all week and we ate many! Humahuaca wasn't as interesting as Purmamarca or Tilcara but was a good spot to rest and enjoy lunch before our journey back to Salta and allowed us to see the afternoon lighting on the hills of the Humahuaca Gorge which was stunning.
