Was swimming on the adjacent beach with my girlfriend when we started walking down the road to a street food vendor we saw earlier. The lovely hostess of this establishment came out as wr passed and convinced us to come in as their food was great, the prices seemed reasonable and all their cocktails were 2 for 1 all day.We entered and sat at an empty table, and after a few minutes the lovely lady come over with menus, but told us all the available tables were taken apart from a floating bench (suspended from the roof) which was mostly taken up by a Buddha statue. We sat there for 5-10 minutes until she threw together some free beanbags and a small table for us.After sitting for about another 15 or so minutes, we were brought over our own menus. I might add at this stage that while the venue was full (approx 18 people), by no means was it busy. Orders were scarce and people mostly seemed to be waiting. A group of 6 who were sat a few minutes prior to us managed to order food and drinks, and have all of their cocktails made and delivered prior to us being able to order at all. Confused as to why multiple tables wouldnt be asked to place their orders at the same time to get the ball rolling. After being here over half an hour and being walked passed several times to go and talk to people walking past, we decided to leave. As we went to stand up the server quickly approached us and gave us a chance to order. Once again i cant fault the servers attitude, she is absolutely lovely, it just seems her priorities and time management are lacking. We ordered some passionfruit mojitos only to be included in the drink special, despite being told it was all cocktails.About another 15 minutes went by once again, when our drinks finally came out after a few other tables who had ordered after us. We later found out that two ladies who had already eaten had received our drinks by mistake, but said nothing of it and enjoyed their free drinks, shame on them for not speaking up and at least letting someone know about the mistake. Drinks were yummy though small and we weren't game to order another round and instead sipped on a water bottle we had in our bag.The server disappeared with her deadlocked dogs out of the restaurant for about 10 or so minutes and convinced another two couples to come in. After watching them wait for a long time to get menus then order, i almost made a joke about how long we'd been waiting to them, but decided against it. We were all in this together. After multiple bathroom breaks, ponderings about the canines long rear dreadlocks (twice the size of it's tail) and debates about whether to cancel our orders or not, our food arrived at 1.40pm, we walked in at midday. Another table who had arrived after we had finished our drinks apparently ordered the curry chicken, same as us, and recieved it the exact same time. I have no idea how this works, but i was too hungry to care. The food was nice, but by no means was it worth the hour forty wait we endured. We just wanted to eat and get on with our day since lunch took over two hours. We tallied the bill from the menu, 4500 for each meal (9000) plus 4000 for the two for one cocktails. We normally tip 15%, 10% if the meal was just okay, but at this stage we were pretty sure we were entitled to just cover our meal. We went to pay to find out our bill also included a 20% tax, plus we had been autograt'd a further 10%. So much for a reasonably priced meal. Skip this place, we went to Ghetto Girl (unsure on spelling) the night before and the food was better, bigger and the wait time was 20 mins tops.

JTs creations just keep getting better and better. Not sure what to order,I recommend you start with the flight and choose what one is best and order from there. His Sun Down Brown is my favorite. full bar as well, great food and a great place to stay as well.
Rustic traditional Space, facing the sea, 4 tables and two bars, offering delicious arepas and Colombian empanadas, in a cozy atmosphere.
We ate here in August of 2016 and again on August 4, 2017 during this vacation. The arepas and empanadas are outstanding and very authentic. It has an excellent flavor and is very filling. The portions are extremely generous and can be shared amongst family and friends if you order a few different items. The price is very affordable. The view of the beach is not only perfect but shaded by the tall trees. It allows for a cool and relaxing breeze to help you unwind and relax while you're eating. The coffee is very delicious and potent. It is definitely a great place for the entire family.

Hubby and I enjoyed dinner, and a take-out lunch, at Banana Azul in July when we rented a house nearby on Playa Negra Beach (reviewed separately) and it was recommended by the owners. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, great food, friendly service, free wifi, and reasonable prices. It also had a (free) locked and fenced parking area. We had sandwiches for lunch and for dinner, I had lasagna and hubby had mahi mahi. Everything was delicious and we enjoyed our meals. We also enjoyed the soup and salad buffet at dinner. The total bill for dinner was about $50 and they accepted credit cards. The gardens are lovely and we returned during the day to walk through and enjoy the grounds more fully in the daylight. We enjoyed the koi pond that stretches the length of the dining area with its many fish and turtles. The garden had beautiful paths, plants, and trees. The beach area also looked beautiful, although we didnât relax there. We recommend dining at Banana Azul and will return when we visit Puerto Viejo in the future!*Thank you for reading my review! Traditional lay back restaurant in the city center of Puerto Viejo. The place offers mostly traditional dishes and very good drinks. The place is mostly visited by locals living in Costa Rica. The dishes size are quite impressive. For example, I've order pollo en salsa caribbean. I had mostly half of the chicken.I would recommend the place to a group of friends travelling.

Our lunch was excellent here at Soda Shekina! We ate the Chicken with Caribbean Sauce (about $7) and had the pineapple juice and watermelon juice. I loved the chicken and the Pineapple juice was unforgettable. Our friend gave us a taste of her dish, shrimp with coconut sauce (about $9). It was Amazing! I can't wait to return. Restaurant was located on the same block as grocery store and tattoo parlor.Soda means local restaurant so price was great for fabulous food! I recommend you have colones when going to Soda but lucky for us, Soda Shekina, accepted dollars.
