.."tavernetta al molo is a casual and unhurried respite from the city dining, one where the seafood offerings are straightforward but also precise, its wine list includes manynearby producersof local white grapes..." THE NEW YORK TIMES INTERNATIONAL EDITION
We were happy when we got a table for dinner but that didnât last long. Apart from the fact that the menu was in Italian only, the waiter/owner didnât seem willing to translate for us more than âitâs fish dishâ. Moreover, between courses there was 50 mins gap and although we asked about our food he answered that everyone else is waiting. Which was not true because all the tables around us already finished their dessert by the time we got our plates. We were the only tourists/ non-Italians in the restaurant and felt a bit ignored and delayed. When finally the dish came he made an inappropriate comment âI told you it will comeâ , plus it was awful! My mussels were literally full of sand, I gave up when I saw that each one is the same plus I felt so sick after for entire night. My bfâs calamari was more of an appetizer portion than a main. I donât recommend this place unless maybe if you are a local!

I wandered into this little cosy place randomly when searching for lunch in the city. The waitress was very cheerful and friendly and recommended the mixed seafood starter. After yesterday's dinner disappointment, I was delighted by the excellent selection and beautiful presentation. It was filling enough but the person next to me had ordered grilled calamari and they looked so good I had to have them too. Superb. I had a 1/4 l of sparkling local wine and water to go with the meal. At the end, as I was the last person, the proprietor came and started chatting with me, offered me a glass of wine and hints for further travels. I felt very welcome and dined superbly!! Lunch is probably more relaxes than dinner, when they are likely very full. I was the only foreigner (I do speak Italian).

You can't find easily this place as it's a bit away (but still on a walking distance) and outside any touristic route or recommendation. It's a local thing and our local colleagues brought us then other night for celebrating our gathering and mutual work in Trieste. It was a weekend evening, very crowded, full of lovely and large Italian families (from 'nonnas' to babies) so don't think visiting Scarpon without a reservation. As for the menu, it's mainly a fish & seafood restaurant, so you shouldn't look any further. There are, however, some dishes for those who would like something else, but that's only if you don't eat seafood. The selection is very nice, fresh and highly enjoyable, and although there isn't anything so special, rare or unique, it is really delicious and tasty, and I liked everything I tried. Moreover, the atmosphere is just pleasant and warm, and I enjoyed each single moment spent there!

The Hostaria which has a seafood specialty was a treat. Food was well prepared and presented with good quality ingredients. The choices were inventive and the atmosphere was right on. Good wine choices. Seafood risotto was a hit as were the desserts. No problem retuning.

We drove from Trieste, its about 15kms but bus 42 will take you right there. Lovely covered outdoor eating and cosy indoors. Absolutely can't go wrong with homemade gnocci and prime veal dishes including schnitzel and ossobucco. Welcoming and efficient service, house wine or bottles. True home made high quality when you are sick of tourist food and pizza. Cost about 15 euros for main course and wine.

Nestled in the heart of the city of Trieste, the restaurant Joia is both a grill restaurant, but also a lounge bar. The variety of its menu is substantial and ranges from sausages to meat, fish, homemade desserts, and snacks at the buffet varied. From the
It was a very busy night and the staff were rushed off their feet, but still they kept calm and maintained service. The menu comprises many seafood items that are well cooked. The food was satisfactory to good, but not overwhelmingly so. The meals tended to be on the larger side.Credit cards were accepted.

The Osteria alla Mare alla Voliga is a convivial place, simple and informal, where you can taste fish dishes with polenta offered every day, and is a reference point for local customers and tourists since 1981.
While visiting the Cathedral S. Giusto, we asked the person tending the gift shop for a lunch recommendation. Upon arrival, a glance along the street left us dubious. Inside, however, the meal and the friendly service were great. Seek it out if you are hungry for seafood and in the vicinity!

We found the Antica Trattoria Suban via TripAdvisor and what a find this was! They offer about 15 dishes but they are all immaculately made and perfectly representative of the local cuisine. Prices are more than OK for what is on offer (expect to pay about 15 Euro for a second course, 6 Euro for desert, a bottle of great wine is about 20). Food is magnificent, well prepared and well balanced. And the deserts are to die for...try the ice cream! Service was absolutely great, very knowledgeable and courteous, with complimentary dishes from the house. The restaurant itself is a bit outside the city centre but you can easily find free parking spaces outside. Reserve in advance - the place tends to get full! Respect for what the founder of this restaurant has done! A very highly recommended establishment!

Last week we visited Castello d' Miramare in Trieste. We then started walking back to town and saw this Trattoria. After a friendly reception by the manager we were immediately seated. I ordered a grilled octopus dish that came with amazing potatoes, rocket and delicious tomatoes. The octopus was meaty and tender and the grilling spices used made for an unbelievable taste sensation. I don 't know what anyone else in our party had for lunch and I don't really care. All I want is some more of that octopus!
