We were looking for a restaurant with seating for 8 on our rainy day in Volterra. Rain was disappointing but this restaurant made our stay fun and memorable. Food was delicious and our waiter knew about wine which made the lunch hour an education also. You'll have to look up the location as we just stumbled on it coming down a small alley. If you are lucky Luca will wait on you and charm you completely with his humor and interest.

So not thinking through well enough we ended up driving to Volterra one of these long weekends when Italians love to go and enjoy there own magnificent attractions such as this beautiful little etruscan town. Queing up for parking, people everywhere but in good spirit. So knowing from experience we decided to grab a lunch place just before 1 pm not risking everything is full. 15 minutes all restaurants are crowded. Ombra della Serra just a mid range place in one of the busiest streets. They could get good business just by location. But ambitions in kitchen is quite high, and the staff is so nice despite the rush. It is admirable to keep the standard, not becoming a tourist trap.

A typical Tuscan trattoria, not particularly impressive going in, you are somehow projected in the Seventies. Service is friendly and attentive and, In my case, carried out directly by a gentleman whom I assume is the owner.Food is excellent. Really. Unsophisticated, philologically faithful, perfect, high-quality Tuscan cuisine. To the point that, in spite of the fact that I was riding a motorcycle and had another 200 km to go, I ordered a SECOND main course: after tripes "alla fiorentina", I indulged in another offal delice: "lampredotto", accompanied by home-made "giardiniera" pickles; before all this, I had had a magnificent plate of "pici" pasta (sort of hand-made huge spaghetti).Unforgettable. Will go again next time I'm in Italy.

We had an awesome time in here. Great wine offer and the famous tuscan delicacy cinghiale stew was also delicious. Offers so many tables and we found a small one in a separate room. It was just ours and enjoyed every moment of it. Service is outstanding. My partner was gluten intolerant. They are not really prepared for food allergies, but they tried their best to satisfy our needs. Not so cheap, not expensive either, altough it is a perfect stop for a lunch in Volterra. Keep up the good work 5/5! We'd love to go back anytime.

We had a casual cafeteria-style lunch at Vecchia Lira while visiting Volterra on a day trip from nearby San Gimignano. This restaurant has two dining areas, a front room beside a long food counter (where the available lunch items were on display and where we sat) and a full dining room in the back. Lunch is "self-service" meaning that you order at the counter and carry your food to an available table. We shared a hearty soup and a meat dish, both of which were good and very reasonably priced.

Absolutely worth it! We came spontaneously at 7.40 pm and got a table straight away. Later the restaurant filled up, so a reservation can be helpful. The place is family run and everybody was really nice and helpful. We ordered a typical soup, pasta with wild boar ragout and ravioli with celery pesto. Everything was really good! Our favourite was the wild boar pasta.
