Every year we go back to Otranto in August and, when dinner time comes, we go back to Umberto's restaurant. You can truly trust quality and taste of food, everything is fresh and deliciously cooked. Sometimes they will tell you that something on the menu is not available, but that only means that they do not use frozen stuff and that you'll always have fresh fish. I love everything at Da Umberto, from appetizers to desserts. And the garden is lovely too. A must-go in Salento.

Maybe it's because it's not in the old-town area? We ate in the front / outdoor section, the setting was fabulous. The service was outstanding, taking care of our drinks constantly, serving course after glorious course. My kids got classic margherita pizza, it was great. The homemade pasta was delish! Tomatoes and basil was fresh, I could have eaten for hours... we did! The shrimp the steak, the meat and cheese antipasti, just everything was top notch! All this came to about 150 euro... can I live here?! Great dining experience.

We arrived on a baking hot afternoon.... The heat was so intense that we could barely breath! So we were looking for somewhere with a good air-conditioning system to cool down. We were greeted by Roberto who really did his best to make us feel welcome. One of my friends wanted a large mixed salad and he was more than satisfied with what came through : a huge salad which, besides the usual greens also had oven baked potatoes, corn, olives, capers etc. Which was beautifully presented. We also had the house special which is octopus baked in a clay pot which was sublime as were the home made gnocchi. So truly a very positive experience all round. Special thanks to Roberto who truly took care of us. Well done!
