Rorbua

My wife and I recently had dinner at Rorbua and enjoyed our meal. We arrived much earlier than the time we reserved and they had no trouble accommodating us. Staff were very friendly and efficient. I started with a smoked reindeer appetizer, which was very good. I then had the Taste of Norway dish, which included several different kinds of meat including whale, deer, reindeer and beef. I enjoyed that one as well. My wife ordered their summer salad, which was huge and very tasty. They have a large selection of beers and we wound up getting beer from Mack (located in Tromso). I would go back. Also, just a warning - I don't know how often this happens, but a large tour group came in for dinner while we were there.

Giving a shout out to the fine chefs at the Schlagergarden Kafe. Super delicious food at reasonable prices. The menu changes daily and offer well prepared, seasonal food from scratch. There is a big bookcase of cookbooks by the entrance that these creative cooks use regularly. It was difficult to decide what to order here because it ALL sounded so delicious. Nothing too fancy, but real home style fare.We split a lot of small plates in addition to fresh soups and salads and sandwiches. It is a casual affair and out of the city centre but worthwhile finding. The restaurant itself is a very old farm house and has a pleasant, comfortable dining area. I am guessing that most of the diners are regulars and local. It felt as if we were visiting someone in their home. After eating in many restaurants in Oslo, this one was our favorite and most memorable. The bread is amazing, the chef owners are extremely lovely people and enjoy doing what they do and it shows. Wish we had room for dessert, they looked so tempting. Come here and enjoy a taste of real Oslo, off the beaten track.

We hadn't realised when we booked, very early on, that it would be a special degustation meal. My Partner couldn't cope with the size of the meal, but the waiter didn't flinch when she just wanted shrimps with some delicious bread and champagne. I had the full meal which was just fabulous as we expected, and indulged on some champagne and a Pfalz Riesling. As expected, quite expensive, as you expect in Norway, but good value for the costThanks.Welcome Back.
